The man in brown short-shorts just handed me my 4880

Greeetings all! The man in the skanky brown shorts just gave me my new 4880 that I ordered from pctorque. I unpacked it, and I must say that pc torque does a great job of packaging these computers. I pulled it out, installed windows xp pro corperate, which amazingly took less than ten minuites. I wish I had timed it, this thing is FAST. My inital impressions are... the compents about the screen having teh suck, are either complete crap, or I have never seen a GOOD screen. This screen is just fine, not amazing, but definatly suitable and not lacking. The shape, look, and build quality is phenominal. My only issue is the ugly sager bump on the lid, I think I may take advantage of my resources and mold a new plastic lid which is completely flat. The keyboard is great, the start button is in a nice spot, the function key is in the right spot, most everything is better in person than in the pictures. My first gripe is that the mouse pad feels downright starnge. The texture of it is goofy and unlike any other pad I have ever felt. The mouse buttons ar ea bit small, but I will get used to them. So far I have not been able to find a single dead pixel, and I cant wait to get all of the drivers isntalled and check out what this thing can do in Half Life 2. Frankly, I was expecting FAR less than what I have recived so far, and it seems to just keep getting better, which is amazing because normally I am a hard critic who is difficult to please. If anyone has any questions about the 4880, feel free to ask me, I was searching this forum for information before my purchase and I really couldnt find what I was looking for here. I will post a full review in the reviews section later. Have a great day... I know i will

if you wouldn't mind grabbing 3dmark05 and posting your scores in the reviews section, I'd be interested in seeing someone's actual 4880 scores (I think I've just seen them in the review adam did), and, as far as the screen goes, have you noticed any light or dark spots so far?

I am downloading 3d mark 2003 right now, and I will get you 2005 after I get the 03 scores. I have not yet seen any dark or light spots so far, but now that you meantion them I will keep and eye out.

Well, with running ms anti spyware, norton anti virus, a bluetooth manager, a windows firewall, and no services disabled, plugged in, it scored 6052 in 3dmark03. Now to start tweaking >=)

:edit:Just now with a few tweaks its running at 6301 in 3dmark03.

I can't wait to get mine. My order was delayed for some reason, but PCT says that they'll send it out in 1-3 days. Hey ej25goddess, is the 4880 portable? Is the laptop on the thin, medium, or thick side? How ugly is the Sager badge? Pictures are much appreciated...

Hi

Congratulations. It shall be up to you to help those of us hesitating between the upcoming M38AW and the 4880 .

For my part I would like to ask you how the battery is , which one did you take (8 or 12).

Best Regards
A fellow Sagerite.

One of my best firend Got his a little over a week ago, And the laptop has very good build quality, And it is definatly on the thick side for a Pentium M system, Also the GPU Has very poor cooling, OC'ing it is almost impossible. The thing is very portable since the footpring is not to large, I agree with you on the ugly sager badge The screen is not bad when your looking at it dead on but from an angle it starts looking like a negative photo. I think They really F-ucked this one up with the GPU cooling But if you plan on running at stock clocks this is definatly an awsome system

I would definatly say that the computer is portable. It is of averadge length and width, and is for its capabilities, very thin. Maybe ill take a picture of it next to a ps2 controler or something to give a reference. The sager badge is well in my opinion, very ugly. It is raised up and fairly large on the back of the lcd lid. If sager were would have much perfered one of the small squarish jewels on the back of the 3790 if sager NEEDED to put on o
f their ugly logos on the compuer. It would have been best though with a flat logo like asus or msi does on their computers, I feel that the logo they used cheapens up the look of an otherwise very attrative laptop. I have pictures on my treo, but I need to get them off somehow. I need to find a driver for my USB controller so I can hotsync it. Anyone have one?

The comptuer I bought ahs a 12 cell battery, I did not know that an 8 cell was even an option. I have not tested the battery life yet, I charged it up yesterday afternoon and discharged it overnight. Old habits die hard ;-)

Sager Faboy? There are a few issues with that, I have no brand loyalty to sager, clevo, or pc torque. I simply chose which laptop fit my needs, and so far have had a good experience. If I find anything unsatisfactory with this laptop, I will be the first one to criticize any of the forementioned companies.

I am an industiral design student myself and I recently created my own mouse which I am quite fond of, so I will stick with that . I do like logitech's stuff though. They are a cool company too, they let a car club that I belonged to back in the day throw a huge tuner car meet in their fremont headquarters parking lot.

LOL....I went by that pic quick (box pics just aren't that interesting) and thought the UPS guy was wearing some big ugly boots. Now that I see they appear to be on a woman it's even more disturbing.
Nice laptop though...Sager logo is a bit annoying. Isn't it snapped on or something so you could remove it?

I remember reading one of Adam or Lukes posts, saying that the emblem was fastened with double-sided sticky tape. That was on a different machine, but I suppose the method goes for all models.

Great pics and sexy boots.

I may end up with a 4880...maybe....

Odd that this thread has become a critique on on boots as much as it is on the 4880. Why would I want to have an inluminated keyboard? It seems sort of silly and a waste of battereies since I never look at the keyboard anyway . I am trying to use omega drivers right now, but it seesm that theyd ont like the ati x700 at all. I cant control the core or ram clock speeds, and most of the features dont seem to be there. Can anyone recomend a better set of drivers or perhaps a program which allows me to control the stock ones better?
