Review: 5 Years With the Asus Z71V - Page 2

I have that on my desktop but for some reason there is no option for the microphone on the laptop. Am I supposed to install something? The drivers? What driver relates to the microphone? Anybody who uses microphones in games let me know what you did to use the microphone!

Just an FYI;

You can grab the Synaptics, 7.11.6 (this version should work, not tested) touchpad Driver over here;

or the 7.10.14 (this version does work) here;

whats the advantage to this driver over stock ones on cd?
post #25 of 194
I think mainly that it resolves some scrolling issues.

WHat Scrolling issues? I don't even install the touchpad driver at all from that CD. The standard windows XP one works great..even the scrolling!!

Mine did. Actually my dvd drive sucked. I made about 20 coasters and had only 2 successful burns - i tried 4 different types of media (sony, optodisc, ritek g04 and g05). Didn't matter what speed.

I returned the drive so far but not sure what'll happen (ie refund or replacement). Right now I swapped out my NEC6500 into the bracket and it's working like a charm.

I had a posted in the general that i asked too - how's your hotswap working? Mine doesn't seem to work that well. I take the drive out, no problem. Put it back in but it doesn't recognize.

Also, are your HD and dvd drive on primary? I find that both being on one channel makes things slower.

Also the SATA adapter I think is just a SATA-->PATA adapted. THere's no SATA controller onboard that I can see.

I've noticed that since I overclocked my video card, I have gotten occasional lags/jumps in DVD and other video playback that weren't there before. Is this from overclocking? Any suggestions?
post #29 of 194
If you didn't experience those issues before overclocking, then after you do they start popping up, I think the writing is on the wall on that one.

yeah, I guessed the same. I took down the clock speed a skitch and video playback is fine now. (and I still get 2000+ in 3DMark05, which is acceptable to me)

I plan on ordering one of these babies this week and I was wondering if you genuses could help me out. I am new to the whole laptop dealie and I am not quite sure on what drivers are going to need to be installed and updated from the default ones. If you could list the ones preferred and give a link that would be awesome! Thanks guys!

the only driver I've updated so far is for the video card. I got it at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/. You can find detailed instructions on how to upgrade your video drivers in Smilepak's review. Please note that this does not need to be done. Your stock video drivers work great. It's optional, and will slightly increase benchmark scores.

there's a little bit on the far right (1/4 of an inch or so) that I didn't notice until I looked for it.

Since I just got mine five minutes ago, Holy SHit but is this thing quiet?!? I can barely hear it except now because it's formatting my HD in preparation to install Windows 2000! It's thinner and lighter than I thought it'd be, too! Hot damn!
