Well folks it made it
Well folks it is official, at exactly 1:37 p.m. the Fedex guy showed up with my replacement Sentia from Richard Cary VP of Production at Alienware.
Remember in the begining of this thread how excited I was about the Alien
Well this time I was much cooler with all that I had to go through so far, So I didn't burst out the door with a pen in my hand this time. Instead I calmly strolled to meet the fedex guy at his van and signed for the little box that contained the sentia. This time I opened up the box to find a Space Black Sentia with a little alien head looking at me. I asked for a Space black unit to replace the DOA Xeno gray unit so I would know that it was not the same machine. Anyhow I looked over the machine to find no damage, buggered screw heads or anything to make me nervous. I pushed the power button and low and behold everything fired right up and worked correctly.
Well not totally correctly, The power cinema software was not installed and their is no 500 mb partition for power cinema to work from, but no big deal. I can live without it. Other than that small snafu, the machine is really impressive, I have been using it for about nine hours so far loading programs, virus protection, updates etc. and everything is working great.
The machine seems to instantly open and access programs , Video is awesome when watching DVD's, When the cpu is running at full throttle the fan gets a little noisy compared to my IBM T23 but then the Sentia seems so much more compact that something has to give. A little fan noise is a small price to pay for the compact powerful package that the sentia provides.
The Keyboard is taking me a little while to adjust to, the keys while by no means are a problem just feel different that the Thinkpads I have been using for the last four years. The machine is getting a little warm after being on for the last nine hours and working constantly . However it is not any warmer than my IBM .
I have also burned a couple of dvds using the 8x dvd burner. So far everything is perfect. I will write a real review after I have gotten to use the machine for a week or two.
I want to close in saying that Richard Cary has turned a really poor experience into one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. Thanks Richard for making everything right by replacing the Sentia an overnighting it to me.
One more thing, Regarding the lost keys. I was looking at the locks on the Alien Armor case and I thought they sure looked familiar. Well after a close inspection I realized that the look alot like the locking mechanism on prisioner transport vans that hold the leg chains in place. (I am a C.O. not a prisioner) and after digging up my set of keys sure enough they worked. They look like a big handcuff key. So if anyone looses the keys to their cases just go to jail to open them up
Anyhow thanks everyone for all their support, The notebook forums are the greatest
