best settings for tv display w/ 7405?

Thread Starter
how do i get a good display when using my 7405gx on my tv? the display is too small and grainey. plus, it doesn't fit the screen. is there an optimum setting to get a good display, or does the widescreen not translate to a regular tv well???

Go to: Video Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> ATI Displays -> TV (when you are hooked up to the TV) and adjust there for things like colour and contrast and size (oh My!)...You still won't be able to read your desktop icons, but you should be able to get a decent picture viewing Videos. I also change my desktop resolution to one of the 1.33 aspect ratios, 768 by 1024 non-stretched to avoid the annoying Pan and Scan thingy. I'm using my laptop as a Tivo, and find playing the files in Power DVD with a direct connection an acceptable alternative to burning disks and playing them through my DVD player.

I second that question. If you can use a 74xx as a Tivo, then I could start recording a lot of stuff....

I use the Hauppauge USB2 PVR2 external tuner. Probably not the best choice, but it works for me. There are lot's of TV tuner options. I'd recommend one that uses hardware to encode the video into MPEG because it will use a lot less hard drive space and a lot less processor time.
