Advice on Desktop Systems

Ok, Please let me start off by saying that I know this is laptop forum. I've been lurking these boards for months now in preperation for buying a Sager 5680. I should be buying my Sager very soon.
However, I'm also in the market for a new desktop system. I was wondering if I could get some recommendations from you kind, wise folks? Heh.
I've checked the normal places like Best Buy, Circuit City etc. But is there a better place? One that you can configure your own to spec? Kinda like I configure my laptop with Sager. Anyone have a suggestion?
Thanks bunches.

If you scroll down on the main page you'll find a desktop forum. You might want to move this there.

All of the main manufacturers let you configure your own system. If you going into bestbuy they have terminal setup called the creation station. You can configure your system there and still make use of bestbuys deals. Like 24 months no interest and mail in rebates.

You can also visit the manufacturers webiste and they'll let you configure a system there.

I beleive Dell still makes the best desktops out of the mainstream companies. I don't know of any small companies like Pctorque that do.

Or you could do what I do and build your own, but your probably don't want to do that.

Could you please tell me what kind of system you're looking for? Business, general use, gaming etc...

Oh hell, I'll infer from the fact that you are getting a 5680 that you like powerful systems

With that said... I can wholeheartedly recommend ThunderboxPC! www.thunderboxpc.com

They make exquisidly crafted and tested systems for every budget, including watercooled ones! I personally own the first "Xfuel Nitro Special Edition"
Read about them on www.gamersdepot.com

Their support and service is top notch, and these guys really will create a computer EXACTLY the way you want it. Want a part not listed on their inventory? Ask about it and they'll get it for you. Want custom designs? They'll do it. They also really go out of their way to test a system for you. I think they tried 5 or 6 different kinds of RAM in mine before deciding on the one with best performance!

In my opinion they offer better parts at a more affordable price then Alienware, Voodoo, and FalconNorthwest.

If you want a beautiful, powerful computer these guys are the way to go.

That's kind of a cool looking system, but the price is kinda ridiculous. The water cooling is totally unnecessary these days unless you want the absolute quietest system available.

I built a virtually identical system myself for about half that amount of money that benchmarks almost identically to that one with simple air cooling.

At the risk of spamming, I can tell you that I and a few friends have had excellent experiences with ABS Computers (buyabs.com) . They have a great range of systems, and any particular package you go with has a dizzying array of customizations and upgrades available, and they offer some of the best price/performance/features ratios I have found. They are in the greater L.A. metroplex, so if you live near there you can save some dough on shipping as well.

Those thunderboxpc case skins look really cool! Price is a little high though...

Of course, you don't HAVE to get a watercooled system if you don't want to or feel its neccessary. I find it great for overclocking.

Thunderbox has an assortment of air cooled systems, and based on their reseller ratings, everyone seems to be very happy with them. The price isn't rock bottom, but for their experience, tweaking, and selection of parts I think its worth it.

If you give them a call, Jon Mancil will find a way to config a system to your price range. I am absolutely sure that you will be getting a better system for whatever you spend then if you bought it from a major reseller or a retail store!

Check out tigerdirect.com, they have great box systems. I helped a friend build there custom computer with parts from there. It runs great. Nothing like putting your liquid cooling system out in the cold New England air to help it run a little cooler.
