Hi everyone i called gateway and they will not tell me how to get inside my cmos battery to reset my password that i lost. can anyone help me on how to reset my cmos password on a gateway 7422GX laptop? they told me to take it to where i purchase it from and let them reset it. i really dont want to do that. on my desktop all i had to do was remove the cmos battery and short out across to solder points and replace the battery and it was easy.

Try some of the backdoor passwords: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

Most are case sensitive. I don't know if any will work on these machines, but worth a shot.

Yes, click my "got flicker" and follow my ram guide. It will get you far enough inside the laptop to gain access to the cmos battery.

there's a program called KILLCMOS, which will erase any CMOS password (BIOS Accesing password, not admin password to boot the machine). Just google it, and put it on a floppy drive or bootable CD. Run the program and VOILA! no more CMOS PASS.

Hope it helps,

The point to not to drain the battery but to force the sys board bios circuit to open which releases any non-default settings. Open circuit=forgetful bios.
