AVI editing

Thread Starter
Is there any software out there that I can edit and AVI file to make it slittly smaller? I have a video clips that are around 720-750megs and would like to put them on CD.

I have tried to use windows movie maker but it is really slow and the files lose a lot of quality. I'm hoping to find something that is preferbly free.

So far nothing in my opinion has been able to touch Media Cleaner Pro now called Cleaner XL...it's a leading compression suite... http://www.discreet.com/cleanerxl/

One of the best avi edittors is virtualdub. It is free, and has a plugin architecture similiar to photoshop. Get all the codecs you need first....divx, and xvid - and any other video, or audio codecs you need....including whatever codec was used to encode your avi. In vdub you can just do direct stream copy on the audio, and then re-encode the video using "full processing mode" and just lower the bitrate to make the file smaller. Or versa visa....direct stream copy the video, and lower the smapling rate of the audio. It may take you awhile to learn, but it is a great little program....vdub here..

The plugins are free too (in addition to the ones that come with vdub)...follow the links off the vdub page.

divx here....

xvid here....(better than divx imo)
