nw8240 or zd8000 - What do you think?

I am looking to buy a new notebook soon and I wanted to get some input.

I will be using the notebook for general use as well as digital content creation and gaming.

I like the 17" screen on the zd8000, but I would like to not have to be plugged in when I work. I like the fact that the nw8240 can get ~3.5 to 4 hours of battery life.

Here is the specs on the 2 versions currently of the nw8240:

Version1
Processor Intel® Pentium® M 750 processor (1.86GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB) (Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology)
Memory 512MB 533MHz DDR 1 DIMM
Hard drives 80GB hard drive (5400 rpm)
Display 15.4-inch TFT WSXGA+ WVA Panel
CD-ROM/DVD MultiBay II 24X DVD/CDRW Combo drive
Wireless hardware Integrated Intel® Pro Wireless 2200BG (802.11bg)
Warranty 3 Year onsite warranty, US and Canada

Version2
Processor Intel® Pentium® M 760 processor (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 533MHz FSB) (Intel® Centrino™ Mobile Technology)
Memory 1024MB 533MHz DDR 1 DIMM
Hard drives 60 GB Hard drive (7200 rpm)
Display 15.4-inch TFT WUXGA WVA Panel
CD-ROM/DVD Multibay II DVD+/-RW drive
Wireless hardware Integrated Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG (802.11a/b/g), Bluetooth
Security accessories HP TPM Embedded Security Chip
Warranty 3 Year onsite warranty, US and Canada

Let me know what you think!!

Definately get the nw8240...The ZD8000 will probably give better performance in some areas but in almost all cases you wont notice any difference between the two. The nw8240 will also give better battery life and is also a lot lighter and easiable carriable. I do agree that it's a bit pricey though...but given the advantages it has over the ZD8000..I think its worth it.

Between the two versions you posted the 2nd one will definately provide great performance.

In addition, the hp support system for nw8240 would make the zd warranty look like crap.

The 3/3/3 warranty is very appealing. If HP is willing to put that kind of warranty with the notebook, I think that says a lot about HP's opinion of the nw8240.

Yes, but the second one is also 1400 dollars more expensive. Is that worth it? I wish they had true customization.... I'd like to throw on the 100GB5k hard drive and 2GB Ram... but it's not available. I might as well get the cheaper one and go to newegg for some RAM and HD upgrades.

Edit: I just re-read your post..you were talking about the 2 versions that the OP posted...my mistake didnt read it properly..

In that case...Yes I agree if you are able to upgrade yourself then the first one will be better.

This is the direction that I am heading in. It is difficult to justify the extra cost. I will eventually buy a 60 GB 7200 rpm drive, but I will go with the 80 GB 5400 rpm drive for now .

Try zipzoomfly for your ram upgrade. They beat newegg and ship free 2nd day fedex. Pricewatch will get you a better deal on a hard drive also.

This looks like an awesome notebook to get, especially with the killer warranty, small form, awesome video card, and upgradability. Only if it looked sexy... but I know an airbrush artist so he can just throw on my old avatar (ninja changing channels on a TV with ninja stars).

I still can NOT make up my mind between this, the Asus Z71V, or the XPS2.
