9300 1.6 PM, MW XP Pro, UXGA, 256MB Mem., 256Nvida Go 6800, 60 GB 7200,
8x CD/DVD Burner, 6-cell bat., 2yr warr., 350 Bluetooth.

All for $1648.00

I'm trying to find a reasons not to buy this today. I need a laptop and can only wait another month. I'll use it for games on occasion (HL2 etc) not hard core, and general business apps. The only reason I am hesitant is I would rather have a laptop that is 64 bit for future apps. Then again, I could always buy another in two years when 64 bit will be more of a player. Please help my mental masterbation. I'm a noob, but it seems this is all the laptop I will need. I'll also hook it up to my home theater to see what I've heard I've been missing by only using a Xbox and Gamecube.

Thanks

If you like to game or pretty much do anything other than just "surf the net" you will need more ram. I know when I purchased my xps gen2 with 512MB it was miserable doing anything and everything so I quickly upgraded to 1GB and ebayed the hynix ram that came with the system. Here is a coupon that is 800 dollars off an Inspiron notebook if it is 1999$ or more. I would just upgrade to the 2.0GHZ Pentium m 760 and then apply the coupon. It will bring it down significantly W2HKVHMFJVX3WM

Now that it seems people are talking alot about 64Bit laptops, i wonder if i made the right purchase, i am kinda worried now. this laptop has to last a long time.

64bit windows will not make any real world difference in regular home computing(right now but may in a couple of years). It supposedly speeds up networks and computers where large amounts of memory are being used constantly. Currently there are no games or applications that are being made for 64 bit windows. It will take at least a couple of years to even have half the amount of programs for 64 bit windows that there are for 32bit. I would not hesitate purchasing the 9300. It is a good investment as long as your WUXGA screen does not have dead pixels or minimal light leakage like mine.

Thanks for the Advice. Would it be cheaper to just get the 256MB SDRAM in the 9300 and purchase 1 GB at an online retailer and do the swap myself? Or are Dells prices for RAM about the average?

Yes It Would...no Dells Ram Is Outrageous

I would try either Mushkin, Kingston or Crucial Ram. All 3 are very good reputable companies with lifetime warranties.

Lifetime warrantys on computer parts seems a waste to me. How long do you keep a computer? I have never kept one more than 5 years. After 5 years they are usually so dated it isnt even funny. Besides 5 years how much do you think that stick of ram would cost for you to replace?

You do have a good point lol. Lifetime warranty just seems reassuring to the customer. But those three companies that I listed are always one of the best if not the best for RAM.
