Audio advice?

Hello. I have an 8887-V and I am tired of my laptop speakers.

Now I cannot decide whether to go with an external soundcard (eg. new Audigy 2 NX) and a pair of analog speakers (eg. creative MegaWorks THX 550) or a set of Logitec Z680's. They would be comparable in price, but what about performance?

Anyone have any opinions, comments, anything?

I really need some help.

I would also like to know what the general opinion is about the Audigy 2NX.

Id prefer the analog...waiting for the new Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultras to show up...

External soundcard and analog 5.1 speakers is my preferred set up

Thank you gsferrari, I appreciate your response.

Do you think I should go with the extigy, or the audigy 2nx?
Are there any better external soundcards out there?
I cannot afford the ProMedia 5.1's, any comparable alternatives for around $200?

Anyone else have an opinion?

If you are on a budget then go with the Logitech Z-680...nothing else comes close with its range of features...

If you dont mind Cambridge Soundworks products...some of them are SWEET!! then you could get those...

Alternatively - rig up your own speakers...get the Audigy2 NX and have a blast...

All you need are 5 good quality speakers, enough wood for enclosures, one sub and a 3 channel amp which can power your front, rear and sub/centre speakers.

Yup its complicated but its worth it

Or you could check these out...

Klipsch Promedia 2.1 - VERY NICE!!!

Creative's best 2.1 offering - also very nice...

This is also very nice!!

I think the 4.1 Logitech will do good service...The creative has better sound (mellowness) than the klipsch - the klipsch just kills in terms of BASS!!

Here are some more links :-

The refurbished deal sounds like a good deal...

There was a guy once who build his own speakers with his own amp, but I don't think it is worth it.

Speakers are like a science, there is design that goes into them. Cheaper to just buy a pair that you know sounds good than build your own that could sound like crap.

Well thats my $.02 anyway

For $99 (street price) you can get the Echo Indigo soundcard. It is extremely good. It offers two stereo outs with a volume control. It's easy to install and makes a huge difference in the sound quality and volume.
