How crucial is hdd speed for audio apps?

Thread Starter
Really love the Sager 4760-v, and have been told that ideally, for sample based music production, the 7200 rpm hdd is the only way to go (I run FL Studio currently on my desktop). Is it REALLY that critical? Can I get by wirh a 5400 rpm? 4200? It's one of the areas I'd like to trim the fat (much as I'd love the 7200, I need to trim) I intend to stream audio from the hdd as well as record live audio and I DON'T WANT HICCUPS!!! Any thoughts?

I doubt you'd get hiccups with a slower drive, but it might take a lot longer for files to load.

Yes 7200 rpm is the way to go.
I run Logic Audio Platinum,Cubase SX on my old 8880 and saw huge jump in performance when I got a 7200 rpm drive.
Also helps if the 7200 is the second drive so you can move your swap file to it.
Ideally 2 7200 drives would be great.
If you cant afford an internal 7200 get a nice firewire drive results should be similar.
