I just dont get it, why cant Dell just give me a F&^%!@ status on my laptop. Not its being built, or wait a few more days, or We dont have that information available.
Well, how bout that! Just checked again...my machine is past kitting and into build. This should give the rest of you who ordered on the 4th some hope!

{Christopher Hamilton 11:01:32 PM} (757xxxxxxx) I am trying to get an Accurate status as to the production of my laptop. It has been building for 8 days straight now and I want to know what the delay is. I have a coulpe of friends that ordered their systems 2 days after mine with identical configurations and theiers are already built and either in transit or ready to be shipped. It is getting quite frustrating for all of them to be getting updates and I just keep getting told its being built. I would like to know if there are any holdups backorders etc.. with this order..

Thanks much
{HIMANSHU 11:01:35 PM} Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care Chat . My name is Himanshu but you may call me hugh . Please allow me a moment to review your question.
{HIMANSHU 11:01:41 PM} Please give me a couple of minutes while I go through your account details.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:02:04 PM} Thank you. I am getting quite frustrated. I appreciate the quick reply.
{HIMANSHU 11:05:46 PM} Christopher Thanks for being online I really appreciate your patience.
{HIMANSHU 11:05:57 PM} If I understand the issue correctly you would like to know order status?
{Christopher Hamilton 11:07:20 PM} Yes. I cant seem to get any other answer other than its being built. For 8 days straight now. No updates, and I have friends that have ordered identical systems as mine and their status gets regularlly updated. I want to know if there are any backorders, delays etc..
{Christopher Hamilton 11:08:05 PM} You probally have more resources available than the automated phone system
{HIMANSHU 11:08:14 PM} I really understand your concern.
{HIMANSHU 11:08:44 PM} Are you referring to the order number xxxxxxxxxx for the I 9300?
{Christopher Hamilton 11:09:00 PM} I probally wouldnt be that concerned, however when my friend tells me today that his shipped today, and we ordered less than 1hr apart and mine isnt built yet. It concerns me.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:09:07 PM} Yes that is the correct order number..
{HIMANSHU 11:10:24 PM} Please give me a minute while i provide you with the accurate information.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:10:47 PM} Sure no problem. Thanks for the help. Finally a real person!
{HIMANSHU 11:13:21 PM} Thanks for being online I really appreciate your patience.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:13:29 PM} Not a problem..
{Christopher Hamilton 11:13:46 PM} Im just happy that I got through to someone.
{HIMANSHU 11:13:50 PM} We apologize for the delay in your order.
{HIMANSHU 11:14:04 PM} We are currently unable to complete your order due to a shortage in parts
{HIMANSHU 11:14:13 PM} Most shortages that Dell experiences are industry wide and would happen with any custom built system.
{HIMANSHU 11:14:23 PM} I can assure you that orders placed on backorder are given first priority once those parts do arrive. Due to multiple factors involved,
{HIMANSHU 11:14:37 PM} Dell is not able to guarantee delivery dates.
{HIMANSHU 11:14:48 PM} The lead-time a Sales Representative gives a customer is an estimated shipping date based on conditions at the time the order is placed.
{HIMANSHU 11:15:01 PM} Your Patience in this concern will be highly appreciated.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:15:37 PM} Any parts in perticular that are holding up my order. Also, how does this explain the fact that someone that placed an order for an identical system 1hr after me, and theirs has shipped already. But my system is waiting on parts?
{HIMANSHU 11:16:43 PM} Some parts are back ordered I would really appreciate your understanding regarding this issue.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:17:44 PM} I do understand, however I would like to know what in perticular is backorderd.. An Updated estimated completion date, ship date etc..If you could get that information for me I would be grateful.
{HIMANSHU 11:20:18 PM} Christopher Please give me a minute while i provide you with the accurate information.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:20:49 PM} Sure no problem, thanks for the help.
{HIMANSHU 11:22:50 PM} Thanks for being online I really appreciate your patience.
{HIMANSHU 11:24:49 PM} Christopher I would like to tell you that some parts are back ordered so because of that estimates ship date may gets delayed./
{HIMANSHU 11:25:39 PM} Otherwise The estimates hip date remains the same.
{HIMANSHU 11:25:43 PM} *ship.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:26:06 PM} So you cant tell me what parts in perticular have been delayed in my order?
{HIMANSHU 11:26:29 PM} Some hardware components.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:28:36 PM} Cant tell me specifically, so maybe I can help some other people that are going to be ordering this system that I know from going through the same frustration I have?
{HIMANSHU 11:32:14 PM} I apologizze but I am unable to provide you with this information.
{HIMANSHU 11:33:02 PM} Because only the manufacturing team has got this information and they don't have the phone access for it.
{HIMANSHU 11:34:23 PM} Are you still with me?
{Christopher Hamilton 11:34:28 PM} So let me see if I have got this straight. My system is being held up for some hardware components, My ship date remains unchanged as APR 13, 05. However this isnt for sure.
{HIMANSHU 11:35:13 PM} We will try our level best to ship your order.
{HIMANSHU 11:35:32 PM} Your order will be given a first priority to ship.
{HIMANSHU 11:35:42 PM} Is there anything else I can assist you with?
{Christopher Hamilton 11:36:00 PM} Did you note the priority in my account somehow?
{Christopher Hamilton 11:37:49 PM} I am just curious.
{HIMANSHU 11:38:31 PM} You are a very nice customer of Dell even we don't want you to face any issues.
{HIMANSHU 11:38:45 PM} Have I been in your place I would have felt the same./
{Christopher Hamilton 11:39:47 PM} Ty. I just wish the other people I talked to during the week had been as helpful
{Christopher Hamilton 11:40:16 PM} Getting information from Dell sometimes feels like pulling teeth lol.
{HIMANSHU 11:41:38 PM} I really understand your concern
{Christopher Hamilton 11:43:46 PM} Guess we will just have to wait and see. I really need this by the end of next week. Im getting ready to deploy with the military for a few months.
{Christopher Hamilton 11:43:53 PM} Yup im still here.
{HIMANSHU 11:44:05 PM} Thanks for being with me? (WTF! )
{HIMANSHU 11:44:48 PM} As soon as possible your order will be shipped to you without any issues.
{HIMANSHU 11:44:57 PM} Is there anything else I can assist you with?
{Christopher Hamilton 11:45:15 PM} Ok guess thats all the info I can get tonight, thanks for the help Hugh, have a good night.
{HIMANSHU 11:45:29 PM} Please stay online for a moment while I provide you with a reference number for this interaction .

1st thing.. stop crying hehe.. i know it hurts but look at it logically..

I observed my Order Status for a number of days and I had the grayed out stuff going on.. in InProduction.

Then the end of last week it was in the InBuild stage on the phone (but website was the same)

Sunday night CST I look again. Its got the checkmarks etc and its in Testing.

Now its nice that Dell gives us VISIBILITY into their process.. so appreciate and stop crying about why? there are million reasons why..

In the kitting (from what it shows on their site) they find the parts and put it into a container... that goes down the line to the ACTUAL ASSEMBLY FOLKS to the BUILD STAGE.

I am sure there are a limited number of PEOPLE who KNOW how to assemble it on the production line. They are people with HANDS. They work as fast as they can to ensure u dont have a problematic machine.

TESTING - Limited test setups. Same issue.

When suddenly a billion people (hehe) (besides ur friend and ur NBF posters) order a DEAL 9300 for a low price... there could be a scenario where on the same time there might be a few 1000 orders.

Your order falls into a BUCKET of items that go through the stages.. based on ur configuration, parts availability and stuff...

So.... its all about how far is your bucket on the shop floor..

As for info updates.. they can enter information one at a time for every unit. They process it in batches when they get information back from the SHOP FLOOR.

There is always a certain GAP between SHOP FLOOR and the SYSTEM. Live with it.

sounds like we are all screwed with backorders....dang it!

Ordered April 4 at 1pm. Status changed today from Testing to Boxing. On Friday it just said Pre-Production.

Seriously you guys (cartman voice), no complaining about "Why does it still say Pre-production!". It's pretty amazing the way Dell handles this, giving such detailed information about your order. This is extremely rare in any business and should be saluted. Also, I love the fact that they have always, in my experience, set the ship date to a much later date than it actually ships on. My ship date is April 19, but it will probably go out a week early I'm guessing.

Sorry to hear that shipping dates have been pushed back for some people, but I think this is an anomaly.
