CL56: CPU Temp Monitoring Possible?

I bought a Compal 56 about 6 weeks ago. Prior to that, I'd read every thread I could find on it here. Apparently, the utility Mobilemeter doesn't work with the Compal, right? Has anyone ever found a CPU temp monitoring utility that works with the CL56? Is a lack of ACPI as part of the BIOS the problem in terms of Mobilemeter not working?

Not that my CL56 appears to be overheating or anything like that. It's been running beautifully. But I like monitoring things like CPU temps, hard drive temps, etc. for any rig I'm running.

Thanks for any info!!

OK ... so, maybe the Compal 56 is considered a dinosaur now compared to, say, the ASUS Z71V, but I know a lot of you have this laptop.

Any CL56 owners, if you have found a way to monitor your CPU temps, I'd appreciate a reply.

Thanks!

Maybe that's because we haven't?

Also, calling it a dinosaur is a bit extreme.

Mobilemeter works on mine for hard drive temp and processor rates, but leaves out battery charge or temp. ACPI as you noted is probably the reason for it not reporting the processor temp.

JujitsuFreak,
Thanks for your reply! Yeah, I've tried Mobilemeter as well. Also, just to clarify, I wasn't calling the CL56 a dinosaur. I said that maybe other people consider it one. Maybe they don't, either. Anyway, I love mine and don't care that it doesn't have the latest chipset, DDR2, PCI-e, etc.

Fortunately, as others before me have noted, the CL56 seems to have an excellent cooling system. I'd still like to get CPU temp readings since I'm so used to having that kind of info, but oh well.

Thanks again.

Well, I personally have not gotten any fan speed/cpu temp readings out of my CL56, and I don't know of anyone else who has.

Does the CL56 even support these readings? MBM doesn't appear to work and I don't even know what type of sensor chipset it uses.

Good news - I've managed to get the temperature reading from the ACPI interface under windows. You're going to need the latest Notebook Hardware Control app (free)
http://www.pbus-167.com/

Use the "bugfix" version.

I posted the ZIP file with the correct ACPI definition on their site - it will possibly be included in future versions by default.
Grab the ZIP file and put it under the ACPI folder where NHC is installed.

Voila! You'll now be able to monitor the temperature under Windows.

cool, thx, i have been waiting for this a long time!

If that's AMD platform, just go AMD site download AMD Dashboard, if Intel, i have no idea :P

The Compal CL56 is Intel Mobile M and is over 3 years old. None of the available CPU tools out there can read the temperature. It seems to be more of a BIOS issue than a CPU one.

I've been looking around for a while and finally decided to figure out the ACPI memory to read for this data.

Most people have probably moved on to new notebooks by now but my 2GHz is still alive!

The program hmonitor ---> www.hmonitor.net can also read the CPU Temperature of my CL51 Laptop. But hmonitor isn't free, it only works for 2 weeks, then you have to buy it.

So it's nice to have the patch for nhc, to get the reading for free .

Is indeed a headact if every components generate high amount of heat. It happens to one of my old laptop using poor heatsink, hot RAM and stupid HDD that all generate heat. Results: Very warm.

- Year Purchased 1999
> Compaq Presario 1200
: Celeron 850MHz, 64MB SDRAM, Toshiba 15GB HDD, 8MB Shared Trident Blade 2 Video.

The only thing amazed me is the HDD is still running after 5 years old and i formatted WindowsME to install WindowsXP PRO.. it runs fine and smooth enough for everyday office work... LOL

Sorry to dig up an old thread.

Does anyone have the ACPI definition that dodgyrabbit posted for the CL56? If so, can you put it up on rapidshare or similar?

The link that's posted doesn't work anymore and I can't find it on the new upload site for Notebook Hardware Control: http://nhc.yourcopy.de/overview/
