My 4th 9300 screen. What a surprise...

Can you guess which one I just received?

It's on the right.

Everybody's screen HAS to be like this! It's too much of a coincidence to get 4 s#itty screens in a row!

The new XPS 2's Samsung screen I got today has about the same amount of light leakage on the bottom as yours left 9300 laptop. No big deal really, I can live with it.

Holy Bat Crap......Batman

That's the worst I've seen so far. What are you going to do?
I mean the 9300 I returned had some light leakage but seen your pics
makes me feel like I was being picky....Whoa...

I've seen better but unfortunately they were LG screens with the less light leakage.

My crap LG has about as much as that....just be thankful you have no stuck pixels..yet.

I have decided, after much thought, to return the 9300 for a full refund, and just wait until Dell either stops selling these screens, or another company starts tossing 6800's around.

Well everyone knows the Samsungs have more light leakage than the LG. To me its a fair trade off since the LG's brightness is lacking and the sparkles are more evident.

*shakes head*

Don't mean to ruffle feathers but... ya know, you guys are taking this strive for perfection a little tooo far dont ya think? People getting 3rd and 4th screeens, omfg. If I was an actual dell rep i'd literally say "stop wasting your and our time and just get a sony laptop for gods sake"

Sounds like you got one of three choices to make:

1) Return the Dell and don't get a laptop.
2) Live with the leakage
3) Return the Dell and spend $1500 more on a comparible laptop from another manufacturer.

I think after 4 screens you know what they look like and obviously they haven't been up your standards on what you feel is acceptable for what you paid already. I would think calling in and bitching for a 5th screen would be a waste of your time.

Perfection?? Acceptability is my goal. Asking not to see light leakage through graphics and movies is not asking for perfection.

If this is not a defect, Dell should put some kind of disclaimer or notice about this so potential customers don't waste their time and money.
How about this: "If you're intent for using this system is graphics work or movies, look elsewhere--We use subpar screens to save money"

Maybe the Toshiba Tecra M3, Asus Z71V... will be adequate.

Maybe I am the most unlucky person in the world but in the 15+ laptops I have owned Dell,HP,Sony,Toshiba,IBM,and Compaq they all have had some light leakage.

I have to agree. If the screen is not suitable to the purpose they advertise it is, they are responsible for replacing it. I dont remember reading anywhere when I bought my I9300 that there would be light leakage to the point of not being able to graphics work, or sparkles on light backgrounds that will give you headaches.

Not the exception at all.

I've seen the same type of thing on many, many laptop screens from Toshiba, Gateway and Sony. This is just plain insanity. Dell should ask people if they read this forum and are easily influenced and if both answers are yes they should politely decline to sell their laptops to the caller.

My Gateway 7422gx had a great screen...very impressive. Too bad that had the potential to have cracked hinges. Always an issue, it seems.

indeed. I don't understand it. I'll give a company one chance to get it right or I look elsewhere.
I have about the same light leakage but I'm content because 1) I got a $2500 laptop anywhere else for $1300, and 2) I don't stare at blank black screens all day.

Dude, have you ever owned a LCD before? Every LCD has light leakage.
I received a second 9300 with a Samsung X4766 display to replace mine with the LG WXGA+ screen and all the replacement did was made me appreciate the fact that I got lucky and got an LG screen to begin with. Send back the replacements, however I couldn't leave it at that though so I ordered an LCD replacement kit (w9891 is part # and supposedly a Samsung) just to see if I could somehow get a good Samsung without light leakage (I've heard they're out there!). I'll probably evaluate it without even fully installing and and if it's not better, I'll keep what I have and be happy with it. Not sure I could keep any of those 4 you got though. Would have to see them in person since camera's usually make things look at least a little worse than they are.

That leakage is about as bad as my Princeton Senergy 714. It's annoying in dark games (specifically areas of Far Cry and Doom 3) but other than that it's not a big deal. Turn down your backlight and adjust your brightness, gamma, and contrast and it'll look much much better just like it did on my 714 (which had leakage on all sides btw).

Not every LCD has had leakage to the degree I've had. I've seen pics of 9300 screens with very little leakage that I'd love to have.

Yeoman-- I don't stare at a black screen all day--The leakage can be seen through graphics. You don't have the same amount if you cannot see the leakage with normal use.

The ultra-reactionary forces are gathering.

I sorta don't feel bad.

Hahah they just sent you the same one four times LOL. Return the whole PC if you are not satisifed or live with it.

I already made the adjustments. There was a slight improvement, but not enough to make the leakage unnoticeable in my work. Thanks though.
