Hello loyal fans and pancake eaters!
(and those of you wondering if you should buy from ibuypower or not).
To put you up to date.
I have ordered my laptop on the 3rd week of August in the summer of 2004. You can see the specs below in the sig. I have recieved it on September 14, 2004. When I recieved it, I had a dead pixel and wanted to get my screen change. I called ibuypower and they explained everything quickly and professionaly. I've spent next to NO TIME on hold (10 minutes at most combined). They explained that I stand to lose over $100 to get it changed and upwards to a month without a system. I decided to live with it.
Now as of 3 or 4 days ago I started to notice more defects on my screen. First i had green static, and then the screen stopped functioning...PERIOD. The laptop it self still powers on and works great (with an external monitor attached). On friday (April 8 2005), I called tech support and they were quick and professional at it. When I originally called all the reps were busy so I had my number taken. A rep called me back withing 30 minutes. He helped me narrow down the problem to video card or screen malfunction and said the only solution is to send it back for a repair (not ilike i already didn't know that...but still..very nicely done). He also promised to contact the appropriate department at ibuypower to request an RMA for me.
Today when i came back from school (20 min ago). I called ibuypower on the 1-888-xxx-xxxx found on their website. I had a hispanic representative respond after 4 rings (no hold time at all). I explained my problem and told him i was not able to find my invoice at the time. He quickly tracked my order down by my phone number. He further questioned me about the screen damage, asked if it was physical or not, i told him the story about having static, then when i restarted the system the screen failed to turn on period. He said i should send it back, but i interupted him saying I bought Depot Service when i got the laptop. He said he will email me the prepaid postage label to send the system back. He also informed me since my model was discontinued it might take to upwards a month to fix because they might have to send it back to Uniwill in Taiwan to get it fixed if they don't have the parts available on hand (which they probably don't because it is a discontinued model). And if you were wondering, i don't have the lable in my inbox yet, give it a day or 2 before i call ibuypower again.
I will keep this a running post as the events happen. Keep you all updated on:
-what is happening and when
-any extra costs
-time taken
-if i am still happy with my ibuypower experience
-results of repair
-anything else that comes to mind or you ask questions on
NOTE: Please keep this on topic. Don't ask me details about the hardware in my laptop, PM me for that. Furthermore don't hijack this thread, PLEASE. iCalculatore, you're welcome to put constructive comments here, but please no ibuypower bashing. We know you had a bad experience, but we're all hoping for the best with my case.
Respect!
