intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG on 9860

I realized that the 2915ABG is supposed to be for systems with Intel's Centrino technology, but based off a review from another person, here http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...106-219&depa=0 , I decided to give it a try (actually, I bought 2). Unfortunately, luck wasn't on my side, and the laptop won't even boot with the card in either m-pci slot. When I press the power button, the blue light that surrounds it comes on for about 2 seconds, then turns off, and nothing else happens. I guess I'm a bit surprised that it won't even boot. Anyone have any suggestions has anyone been able to get this card working on the 9860? Thanks in advance.

well I'll be damned...

I decided to be a dumbass and insert the card with the machine already running...so far so good...I had device manager search for new hardware, and it picked up the card. Now I'm downloading the drivers from intel's site. Gonna keep my fingers crossed. I don't see how this will fix the problem of getting through the boot process though...

it works...but you can't boot with it

OK, this is a bit irritating. It appears that the card is basically compatible with the system...I'm actually writing this post using the card's wireless connection at the moment...using 128-bit WEP. As long as the card isn't in the system during the first few seconds of bootup, the system runs perfectly. Anyone know if the bios only allows certain mini-pci devices upon start-up...or more precisely, is it set to not boot up if a mini-pci device that isn't OEM is detected ? One of the reasons I got this laptop is because it is user-modifiable.

Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG on 9860

I have this card in my 9860 with no issues. It came installed in the system. I did have one driver issue with it were it stopped functioning and I had to reinstall the drivers but no other issues. I have the latest system bios, but the system came with an earlier bios when I got it and the card still worked. By the way you are crazy sticking the card in with the system powered up you are way lucky you didn't fry your whole machine

Re: intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG on 9860

Are you positive you have the 2915ABG and not the PRO/Wireless 2200BG? I've seen a few posts here and there about 9860 owners using the 2200BG, but not the 2915ABG.

This is a long shot but might work. In the BIOS under the Advanced tab there is a 'Reset Data Configuration:' and change it to Yes. Of course you will need the Card in place so when you save the settings and it resets, it will see the card. Did you try booting without any of the antennae attached ?

Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG

I am positive. Under device manager it says Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Connection.

still no workey

So, I still can't get the laptop to cold-boot with either of the two 2915ABG adapters I bought. If I put either card in either mini-pci slot post-bootup, and then do a soft-reset (hot-reset or whatever name you fancy), and also specify to have the ESCD reset, I get the following error message at bootup after the "System Configuration Data updated" message:
ERROR
Warning: IRQ not configured - PCI Network Controller on Motherboard Bus: 0A, Device:05, Function:00.

I've also tried installing the card without the antennae attached (though I have no idea why that would make it work).

I think the most irritating part of it is that if I insert the card after bootup (yeah, I know it isn't the smartest thing to do) it works fine in Windows XP.

Any more suggestions? I'm stumped

still no workey - 2

I did also upgrade the bios to the most recent version, to no avail.
