what do you guys think about getting 768mb RAM, right in between 512 and 1gig? Would dell do that? is it a good idea?

for me the $800 off deal has been the best I've seen on the 9300 with the 6800 geforce go. All said and done it came to 1136(ish) after 3% fatcash..

A year ago I paid 1600 for my 9100, another 230 for the 3.0ghz northwood processor i put in it (fixed all heat issues), and then another 250 for the 9800 256meg. And that was a great deal for a laptop with that much power.

I'd say the $800 off, if it can get you the config you want, is without a doubt a killer deal.

Of course, each person see's different options as selling points, so YMMV.

As for the ram question.. I'm going with 2gigs later, until then the 512 will do just fine and was just the right amount to get me over 2000 to use the 800 off coupon.

Biggest thing to keep in mind is the parts that will cost a ton to upgrade later.. like the screen and the video card. The RAM, CPU, hard drive, cdrom/dvdrom are all easy upgrades that you can do yourself.

hi, this is an awesome deal, i cant seem to find this deal on dell.com, the only thing they had was a specially configured 9300 that had a load of stuff that i dont need, and those adding up kinda canceled out the 750 off deal. where did you guys get this deal?
Configure the 9300 that you want from Dell Home. Make sure the base price, before any discounts is at least $1999, then apply this coupon: W2HKVHMFJVX3WM

Okay...FINALLY...after about 9 hours online, driving myself and everyone else (including strangers on this forum) crazy, I'VE PLACED MY ORDER!!!

Here are the final specs:

Pentium M 730 - 1.6GHz
17inch UXGA w/ TrueLife
1GB DDR2 SDRAM
128MB ATI X300
60GB HD
24x CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
802.11 b/g Wireless card

Total system cost = 2,150 - 800 = $1,350

Hopefully the video card will be sufficient for me. (I currently have a RADEON 9500 PRO tx on my desktop, will the x300 be much diff?)

I'm excited!

Oh and huge thanks to joseyu and everyone else for their help!

This is really making me crazy....i've been glued to the pc for 6 hours straight now trying to decide, not to mention weeks of waiting for the perfect deal
It all depends on what you need and what you're used to. Most people on this forum swear by the UXGA as some sort of techie pride. But if you're using a 17 inch desktop LCD at 1280x1024, that's pretty close to the widescreen 1440x900 when you factor in the different aspects. Even a 20 inch 2005fpw is only 1680x1050.

Having said that, the smaller pixel size does make everything else appear much sharper.

By reports on 3dMark.com, the x300 is about 1/2 to 3/4 the speed of the 9500.

how long till you get urs?

I might make my buy tomorrow after i figure out what i should get and find more pictures of the lappy and shots of the true life compared to normal.

the i9300 is looking better and better.... however there is one thing that bugs me....

That damned white trim! Someone else (don't remember who) pointed it out and make some good points. Does anyone think it will fad into a not so nice color (i.e. yellow?). Things like that just keep me worried.

I think I'm in the clear now. All this talking about 800 of and 3% cash back makes me wanna buy it right meow! However, I will wait till I have to go back to school in the Fall. Im looking to order around June. Maybe you'll see me start a thread like "gettin'I9300"s

i'm debating it.. get it now get $800 off or sleep it on and get it later with the $750 off. I guess i can wait for the later one. and see how everything going. I just saw the deadline for the coupon to me morrow at 6AM or something if it was morrow at midnight then that would be enough time for me stinks.

Now that i think about it. its between this and a 700m. I noticed a couple of you guys have both. what would be the pros and cons vs both. besides the size factor. i think price diffrences are liek $200.

edit. according to this site. i checked out the expired section.

http://www.gottadeal.com/dell.php

it seems that the $800 off $1999 laptops happen quite often. Do you guys feel it will come around in a couple of weeks?

3/3/05 then 3/15/05 then 3/22/05 then 3/31/05 then 4/7/05 now the lastest one 4/12/05

there seems to be no common pattern so far but. I just cant get it now, because i might not have enough money for it. So i might get it wesnday with the 750$ off or should a take a little gamble and wait for the 800$ off again. I mean it seems like it should come back at least once more to finish off this months.

I found one for $123.37

does the quality of the ram really matter? which brand does dell use in the 9300 and what is the aftermarket equivalent?
Just a little input yes it cost 250.00 for 1gb at dell but dont forget its 35% off that 250.00 because in the end thats part of your total. So whats 250-35% sounds pretty even then what you would spend at newegg. And dude get the 17 WUXGA w/ Truelife as it is this one is not all that now imagine the other one.And again with your extended warranty why not its better to be safe since you sound like someone who will freak out if one monday morning your laptop wont work.BELIEVE IT OR NOT IT HAPPENS. Especially with a Dell ,come on you hear how these guys complain about stuff went wrong all the time, the thing is alot of these guys who do not get the warranty have build there own computers and could probably take that laptop apart and assemble it with no instructions.

Good luck dude and dont hurt your self about this in the laptop world 1200 bucks is not much and the deal you will get at dell will pretty much take out almost all the high end stuff at stores. In other words you cant go wrong you will pay less with dell then anywhere

ok...slept on it, and decided to make changes to my order the big reason for my change was the video card. i figured I could always upgrade the ram, but replacing the vid card would be a much bigger hassle...so here's what i ended up changing..

from 1gb ram to 512mb...i've already found 1gb kensington for $154, so as soon as it starts slowin up, i can upgrade for ~100 cheaper than what dell charges

from 128mb X300 to 256mb 6800

I also got a kensington case big enough for the i9300

Everything came out to 1 cent cheaper than my previous config.

i think its a better choice. I'm happy. HOWEVER if wednesday's deal is even better I think i'm gonna lose my mind all over again.

^what was your config?

i'm thinking about it right now as well to. about just getting an upgrade video and getting maybe the faster CPU. I dont need the burner, i'll pick up an external if anything. nor the HD or the ram. saves me some bucks there.
