How much is the bluetooth card for the 9300? - Page 6

When I called to order mine a couple of weeks ago from Dell Home Parts, they said that they were out of stock. She did however email me a quote. I went to the website, entered the quote number, and placed my order. 2 weeks later it showed up at my doorstep.

If they tell you it is out of stock, ask them to email you a quote and then order it online.

Dang, wish I saw this post before I ordered 9300. Instead of spending $50, I could've saved $35+ by installing it myself... Oh well.. I needed the extra stuff to get to $1999 anyways =x

Anyone know if this bluetooth module also work on other laptops such as 700m or 6000?

I ordered my Bluetooth Module (W9242) last Tuesday and receivced it on Friday. The bluetooth installed without an issue. So I know it works!

An odd thing happened though... my Intel 2200BG wireless module started losing its conection after my bluetooth module was installed. I'm not sure if it was coincidence or not though.

I used the Dell Drivers btw and that didn't help with the disconnection issue. I uninstalled the drivers again and used the latest drivers from the Intel website and it's been working perfectly since. So just a heads up in case you suddenly lose wireless connections.

OT: Will the TM350 work in the 600m?

I realize the TM300 only offers 1.1 connectivity protocol and has the same form factor as the TM350. However I don't think the TM350 will work EASILY for 600m, argh!

Question can someone help rid my confusion or confirm - will the TM350 work in my 600m (I think not, SOL)? TIA

PS: sorry if OT

ARGH! I STILL can't get one of these! The x5166 part an the W part are both out of stock for the 2 weeks I've tried.

I got a quote number today. Could anyone PM me with what the link would be (and where I would insert my quote number) to place the order?

I have my BT mouse sitting here, and I don't want to have to install the USB BT module.

Thanks in advance!

My order of 5/11 is still "in production" with an estimated ship date of 5/17 Hopefully it will not get cancelled like few others mentioned here ...

So is part # W9242 a 350 bluetooth card?

Yep, it is the BT350 module but most likely without the USB cable. So if you order this, make sure that your 9300/XPS already has the USB cable installed. Mine did.

Well the other BT part #X5166 doesn't come with a cable either...

You guys are still having trouble getting the Bluetooth 350 card?
Spare Parts told me they won't have anymore until August.

That's because they can't account for 70 of the cards because they sent them to that guy in error and said he can "keep them" (nudge nudge, wink wink).

He's now selling them on eBay.

LOL. Just wondering, does the part # also include the sticker that is applied to the bottom of the laptop? (the lower left block from the 4 blocks there)

My order for the BT350 got cancelled (for a second time). So I called back Dell and fortunately got a senior level customer service representative. She researched the issue for well over 40 minutes and gave me the following information which seems to be correct.

What she told me is that legally Dell can NOT sell you part number W9242 (or even part X5166 for that matter). All of these parts are for the same BT350 module ... but part number W9242 and X5166 are the internal replacement part numbers and are only supposed to be sent to you by Dell technical support at no cost to you. If you pay for either of these parts from out of pocket, then Dell has some kind of legal issues.

The only part you can legally buy, is part number "430-1188 (Int Dell Wirless 350 Bluetooth for Inspiron 9300)". Unfortunately only sales dept can sale you this (NOT spare parts dept) and it costs $49.

Hope this clarifies the issue for you all. Now I know some of you will say right away that "I purchased part X5166 (or W9242) and got it fine" ... and I don't disbelieve you, but according to the senior CSR that I spoke to (and she sounded like she knew what she was talking about) those sales are illegal and you were luckly to be able to get those under the radar.

This is the reason all these ordered are getting cancelled left and right, and in case you are waiting for the item to get back in stock and are hoping that it will actually ship ... I won't hold my breath if I were you.

Lucky for me that the CSR I spoke to was considerate enough for all my trouble, and placed an order for me for the "correct" part number (430-1188) free of charge, and I FINALLY got it after two days

Someone is giving you disinformation. What you were told is filled with untruths.

It is not illegal for Dell Spare Parts to sell the BT module. There are export laws that prohibit sale of certain items that will be taken outside of the country - that is why the CSRs at Dell Spare Parts are supposed to ask you if you are taking the item outside of the country.

The part number is PRINTED on your system's invoice. If it is for internal use only then it should not be available to the customer. If the part number is for Technical Support's use only, then Dell Spare Parts should not be able to reference parts in the database by part number. The CSRs at Dell Spare Parts that I've spoken with had no problems with me providing them with the part number. It saves them a lot of time in cross-referencing the part with my service tag.

I bought my TM300 in 2004 shortly after receiving my XPS. I called Dell Spare Parts and gave them the part number (2U381). I did it again a couple of months ago when I ordered my TM350 (X5166). OK, I lied when I told them the X5166 was a gift for my cousin's i9300. I was also asked if it will be taken outside of the country. I told the truth and said no.

If Dell wants to tighten its sales policies to restrict sales of parts to approved systems that are owned by the caller, then that is Dell's choice. Dell could easily tell the caller: "Part number XYZ has not been approved by Dell for use in your system. Dell will not support any problems or damage caused by the use of the part. Do you accept these terms?".

We all know that if we return our Dell notebooks for service and the notebook contains hardware that was not part of the original purchase (ie: memory) then Dell may remove those aftermarket parts and return the repaired system configured to the specifications of the original order.

Dell is in business to make money. As long as Dell isn't breaking any laws, why should it care if we buy parts from Dell that they say don't belong in our systems?

I wish your interpretation was correct, but then how do you explain why so many of these orders are getting cancelled ?

By the way, I just re-iterated what the customer service rep told me ... this in no way reflects what I personally feel about the issue

May be Dell wants to make sale of certain part numbers "illegal" because by selling the same part under a different number they make more money

That's why they charge $11.95 for part number W9242, $13.95 for X5166 and $49 for 430-1188 ... whereas in reality ALL these three parts are EXACTLY the same item, the BT350 internal Bluetooth module.

Please stop this nonsense... illegal...WTF

They are in allocation hold. This means that any part available is used for replacement of warranty purposes only.

Just so you know, the cheaper bluetooths from Dell are the remanufactured ones. The 50.00 dollar ones, are the new ones
