Do we really need to do that when you know you might get Michael in Austin or Habib in India when you call in? It's a total crapshoot to get anything done through Dell's customer service.....

And yet we (and countless millions) keep going back. They must be doing something right.

The Dell BT350 is the same card for both the XPS2 and 9300.

Well a sweet laptop that others sell for over a grand more might have something to do with it. They have to cut corners somewhere though....thus the customer service in India....

I wonder what happened to the guy who received 70 of them. Has he been selling them on ebay?

Yes indeed. What they do is use thier gross buying power to keep companies like nVidia and Intel from marketing thier latest products to Dell's competitors or the consumer market. They also lure corporations with supposed savings through corporate accounts when in fact it is only a savings on an already marked up item. I wish I could've obtained my Centrino 17" with the latest modular graphics elsewhere (I have been waiting for someone to come out with it since June '04), but Dell beat everyone else to the punch. Otherwise no one would give a crap about the XPS2.

I actually tried to find that or any in bulk on Ebay for sale and came up empty but that was before I got mine for the 14 bones through Dell. I bet even on Ebay with shipping it would have ran more than that one did.

I just called Dell to ask about my BlueTooth module which I ordered on April 22nd. They said that it's in Allocation. Allocation? The Dell Rep, who was very helpful told me that the order might be cancelled because of that. Anyone been though this before?

Thanks!

What's allocation mean here? If they don't have it, they should just wait till they do, not cancel (automatically or manually) the order.

It did take me about a week for mine ($13) to ship, not sure why, but installation was a snap.

they better not cancel my order then. :I

Has anyone ordered one of these recently? I just called Spare Parts and they said the part # is no good. They said I need this new part which comes with the cable & bracket, price = $60. WTF. She said they could waive shipping, I said "I dont I have enough on my credit card", she says "Oh, we can just bill you". Sorry, no deal. I guess I missed the deal!

By the way, they told me the part number was X5166 but I did't have any luck searching on their website for it. $8 to ship ground plus tax. Would have been cheaper to purchase at $20 price they originally charged.
According to the CSR I spoke to, the $50 price is for the NEW unit, the $13.95 or what nots other has been quoting (part number X5166) is REFURBISHED unit.

That's the same story I've been getting too. Even if it is actually refurbished, I don't think that would make a big difference with Bluetooth. Now, if only they would just let me order one...

I don't think mine was refurbished. If it was I couldn't tell at all.

In 2004 when I bought my machine, I was told by Dell that the spare parts are considered refurbished even though they may be new or refurbished. Parts could come from returned machines, cancelled orders, overstock, etc...
Well, it's official. Dell cancelled my order due to a Federal Mail Order Rule Law. What the hell was that? Anyway, I'm going to re-order it again tomorrow.

Well my guess is that a refurbished bluetooth module would work, and if it didn't you could send it back. Plus, you can pretty much go through 4 refurbs for the price of on new module.

This thread rocks! I was going to spend $50 for one on ebay before I saw this. Thanks!
