Federal Mail Order Rule Law...?
I don't know what the Federal Mail Order Rule Law is... westlaw didn't have anything on a federal statute. Mail order fraud and mail order stuff related to exportation and customs was all over though.

This is that part of the PATRIOT ACT (BTW there is nothing patriotic about it) that does not allow sensative components to be mailed to what they consider suspicious or shady U.S. Persons.

Maybe it's a stupid question but can you put internal bluetooth in all the notebooks???

I'm getting an LG LM70, which doesn't have a built in bluetooth. I don't want to have USB bluetooth ... that just looks ugly and probably pretty annoying when it sticks out of your notebook.

just called again... this time I was told they are out of stock 4/29/05 5:01pm EST
post #86 of 137
Yep same here, out of stock both 300 and 350 modules ((
post #87 of 137
hmm, what about the the i6000's? does it take the same module? and is the wire already preinstalled on the laptops? thanks!
i have the bluetooth module but it kinda sux. i upgraded the wireless minipci to an aetheros (high powered receiver, 4 antennas!) which rocks but the bluetooth then completely freaks out on the system where it constantly goes up and down every 3-5 seconds.

when i switch the wireless back to the intel abg card, everything works again so there appears to be some sort of tie-in between the two. kinda makes sense logically since b/g and bt are all on the same frequency range. my wireless is more important than the bt so i've de-installed it. if anyone want it, make an offer.

I just recently bought another Bluetooth module through Dell Spare Parts. Apparently, the Bluetooth module X5166 is sold out but Module W9242 is in stock for only $11.95. I wasn't sure at first if the module will be fine with my I9300 but when I did a search it seems some users who have I9300s have the modules included in their laptops. So I guess it should work. I am not sure one is newer or not. The module is arriving today and I'll try to see how it goes when I install it this weekend.

Interesting. The rep didn't say what w9242 was?

Oh, the Dell rep said it was a Bluetooth Module but it threw me off when she gave me a different part number. It seems there are two types of Bluetooth modules. Here's what my oder detail showed.

W9242CRD,WRLES,ULD,INT,BLTH,350

If this module works then it's cheaper then the X5166 part which costs $13.95 compared to the W9242 which only costs $11.95. I hope it's not crap!

I keep getting the run around for either part from Small Business.. the x5166 is not in stock but the new part number (w9242) for the same thing is, but at $59.00 instead of $12.. they offered a discount, but it was lame.

Dell Home says they are all out of stock, and don't expect any for another week.

Anyone wanna get me 2 of them?

After a couple weeks of bouncing around to different spare parts departments with no luck, I just ordered one of those $11.95 W9242 units a few days ago too. My order confirmation email also says "350" on it, so I hope it really has the same functionality as the other part number. It sounds like the standard Dell practice of using more than one supplier for the same part. I just hope it works.

Part Number De-mystified

Part Number De-mystified

Guys ! Don't sweat over the part number at all. I can personally guarantee you that part number W9242 *IS* the correct part number for the BT350 Bluetooth module.

Me and a friend of mine ordered our 9300 around the same time ... he went for the BT350 option but at that time I thought I would not need it, so I didn't go for it. However, later on I wanted to get it and fortunately came across this thread and ordered one from Dell spare parts. My order shows part number W9242 and NOT X5166 (that was out of stock).

We opened up my friends Bluetooth compartment and checked the numbers written on the actual module; here is what we found --

Dell P/N W9242 REV A00
Mac Adrs: 0010C6 72899B
USI
FCC ID: PIW632500516610

This was engraved on the actual BT350 module that he ordered as part of the laptop configuration ! So W9242 IS the correct spare parts number for the BT350.

The only thing you will need to double check is whether your 9300 already has the cable available in the Bluetooth compartment. Open up the compartment following the instructions here and make sure you have the cable --

http://support.dell.com/support/edoc....htm#wp1000550

If the cable is not there, you will need to buy that separately. Mine fortunately already has the cable installed.

May be the X5166 part number is for the BT350+Cable ? I don't know ... but don't worry if you get W9242 ... it IS the correct part.

Hope you all can now relax

Is that for your 9300/XPS or for a Latitude D510 ? If it is 9300/XPS, then it does NOT sound like the right part. Here is what my order says --

W9242 CRD,WRLES,ULD,INT,BLTH,350
$11.95
