How did you manage to install them?
They dont work on my laptop (see sig)...

But arent they only for the mobility X700 & X800?
Hi, yes they are but the normal 5.6 XP ones work the same. As you quite rightly pointed out the mobility drivers are for X700's and X800's, that's probably why acer aren't supporting them....

Has any on got it working on and Acer 8100 series?
Ok it seems that only when you have ran the tester program and passed its compatibility, ATI lets you download the 5.6 drivers. Quote from ATI help file:

"Note: Certain mobile products are blocked from downloading the Catalystâ„¢ Mobilityâ„¢ software driver available from the ATI web site. This is to protect systems from installing drivers that may disable features or functionality provided by the system manufacture. "

Can someone with a compatable laptop plz put up the drivers online?

I got 5.6 installed with the driver mod tool from driverheaven.net. Seems to work OK so far. The drivers seem visibly faster, BUT....the strange white line at the base of the screen is back if you run a resolution other than the native 16x10. That got fixed in the 5.3 release....now its back.

I had to use the mod tool to install the drivers then manually install the control panel.

Based on how annoying the line is (Vampires: The Masquerade doesn't support 16x10) I may go back to the Unian 1.1.53 drivers.

if you have an x700 you should not have needed to mod them...

No such luck, the compatibility tester said the x700 in the acer 8104 is NOT supported and refused to go further. The stock 5.6 Xp package refused to install as well. I had to use mobility modder 2.2 to get them installed from the stock XP desktop drivers.

Basically, if your laptop model is not on the supported list of vendors at the website it will NOT install, even if you have an x700/800 mobility chip.

Works, Downloaded in 3 seconds on satellite...

Hi again, I didn't use the mod, the drivers will install manual as a driver update...

Doesn't work, thanks though. I still get the same message: at the 1 of 3 update screen, it tells me the new drivers are not compatible with my system. My laptop is an Acer TM8104, which clearly has an x700.

For fu*ks sake, ATI cant even get their act together for their own advertised mobility drivers - and here I was considering a pair of Crossfire ATI cards in the next few months.

I'm seriously in favour of a Dual core AMD 64 processor and a Crossfire ATI setup in the next few months, but if ATI can't even ge their own drivers to work on my x700 then what's the point.

lol... It is sad...
I'm sorry you feel that way JFvergara, however not getting these drivers to work with your laptop should have nothing to do with your choice of card for your desktop PC....

Give me a break. ATI clearly states why they did this. Laptop vendors may or may not have modified the drivers, especially to support lower clock speeds for heat reasons. ATI is making them test and approve the drivers before it lets their end users use them.

mobility modder 2.2 works great to install 5.6

You can manually installed the driver through device manager too.

For desktop cards it doesn't matter.

I've been running the drivers all weekend on my 8104. They are very very fast, but they do resurrect one bug. If you run at a non-native LCD resolution (say 1280x768) on the 8104 you get a white line, 1 pixel tall, at the bottom if the screen. I had this with the acer 4.x drivers shipped with the 8104. Updating to catalyst 5.3 (unian) fixed this. Catalyst 5.6 brought it back.
