i have the first gen nvidia go 6800 in my 9860. i can't find any information anywhere on if it supports an external monitor displaying 1680 x 1050 (i might buy the 20.1 inch dell widescreen if it does). i don't want dual monitor support i just want the one screen. any insight will be helpful thanks.

Wait a sec, you want to check to see if your Sager can output a video resolution of 1680x1050 to a widescreen monitor, and want dual screens on ONE monitor...

Ummm, I don't know how you're going to get two screens on one monitor.. I'd also advice you to get the model number of the Dell widescreen monitor you want and find out it's maximum resolution.

no just 1 screen on 1 monitor.. just the external monitor will be displaying.. the max resolution on the dell monitor is 1680 x 1050.. like i will have the notebook closed while displaying on the external monitor.. lol this is an easy concept but i didn't realize it was so hard to explain.. sorry for confusion

The Nvidia settings say it can handle 2048 X 1536 X 32bit Color Max. But I have only seen posts that it works at 1900 X 1200 or 1900 X 1440. More important is what is the native resolution (or max) of the 20in Dell if LCD. If it is CRT then it should have a wide range. My old 1998 Dell 19in CRT Trinitron P990 does 1600 X 1200 without a problem. So CRT it will, LCD it depends.

I'm pretty sure it will work; I don't think the available output resolution on the video card is the limiting factor--I think it's your monitor. And most video cards will list every available resolution you could imagine, if the monitor supports it.
