Yo Yo Yo!

Express your thoughts, your experiences, and your praise about the Asus Z71V!!!

As for me here are my comments to it...

Asus Z71V is a very nice well built system which offers the best bang for the buck. It is full customizable vs others such as Acer 8100 series. It has pretty good fast performance and remarkably quiet compared with other laptop I have seen recently.

One postive note most people agree with is not only is it quiet, but palm rest area and laptop overall is pretty cool and doesn't create high amount of heat!

LCD screen is sharp offer high resolution of 1680 x 1050.

See my reviews and other people if you want further analysis....

I played a DVD and had a hard time adjusting the color settings through the NVidia control panel to make it so I could see details within "black/shadowy" areas. The trouble was that adjusting the contrast/gamma/brightness beyond certain levels made the colors look washed out and they seemed to "bleed" into one another. I finally had to settle at a midpoint between washed/out and "can't see details in shadowy areas". Perhaps this wouldn't be a problem if I were using my 17" VGA LCD instead of the notebook screen.

Haven't tried any games yet, will try some tonight... you're right tho smile... very very little heat, virtually no fan noise.

I unfortunately have one of the "sparkly screens". It is somewhat irritating but not a 100% dealbreaker. I'm not sure yet what to make of it. Perhaps a nushield would nuke the sparkle?

No, I put a NuShield on mine, and it still sparkles. The sparkling is a dealbreaker for me, as most of the work I do is either in Word or in an IDE like Visual Studio or Eclipse, all of which are black on white windows with lots of whitespace for the sparkles to annoy me. This could be a dealbreaker for me, but I haven't decided what to do yet.

Funny thing if anyone noticed, the sparkle only exist at 1680 x 1050 resolution? It doesn't seems to show up at lower resolution ehehehh

I just realized this poll isnt going to show anything... all those people who are bitter that they didn't buy the Z71 but something else are going to vote its a piece of junk to make themselves feel better

Was considering bying a Dell 9300, thank god I opted for the Z71V. Very well built, great performance and nice looks. A very quiet and cool performing laptop which seems to never get too hot. The screen is wonderfully sharp and crisp, photos look sooo good their is no point to print them out

I love it so far. My framerate in World of Warcraft is a rock solid 70 FPS. Sacred looks damn good, as does SWAT 4. I have yet to fully drain out a battery.

pretty perfect so far. I can see the 'sparkles' if I really try, but it doesn't bother me in the least. great to type on, very cool (heatwise), great graphics, great screen. no problems.

LoL! I am going try to get some more tweaking on it tonight or this weekend. I was thinking of tweaking up to 350/500 or 300/600.

Also, the new Omega Driver should be out tomorrow, which should enhance performance a bit.

Any of you guys have any light leakage problems with your Z71V's?

Thanks---

I could confirm, nope. I tend to use it in total darkness a lot, as my wife sleep next to me. No leakage found.

Tell us how it goes, I would love to add more advanced settings in Splinter Cell

Just got mine today! I've been playing around with it all day, and I've got to say I'm very impressed. Nice looks, powerful, quiet, really a great notebook. I can see sparkles if I really look for em, but it doesn't bother me- just one of those things you get used to I think.
smilepak, I just pushed it up to 300/550... got 2106 in 3DMark05... what have you gotten when you've pushed it?
You know, I normally OC everything I can touch but this laptop has had no need so far. I'm getting rock solid FPS in Swat 4, Sacred, World of Warcraft, Chaos Theory using the stock clock rates on the GPU.
Curious, what settings do you have on for Chaos Theory?

I found a resolution that works well for me and not blurry!!!!!

1360 x 768!!!!! I am using it now as I am typing!! Woot!

Also, the sparkle is less apparent in it as well!!!

Also if it is a little blurry to you, you could calibrate it using this:
