Lonelyswordsman: To save profile settings in ePower, you have to create a new profile, and then save the settings there. Reason that you have the option to turn off the Firewire (IEEE 1394), PCMCIA slot, bluetooth and LAN is because those are all powered ports to some extent. I'm sure that turning these off does save some power. All in all, I'd rather have the option of turning those off or leaving them on over not having any option at all.

Bios 3c22 for UK

i am on this version now and everything works great. Low noise high speed

Been running 3c22 for about a week now and have had no problems at all with anything on the 8104. Actually the first thing I did when I got the machine was install he 3c22 and a fresh clean install of windows XP from my own copy not the recovery disks.

Have not had any issues with the lappy at all. With regards to the fan noise not sure as have only run 3c22 but certainly runs less than my old 8000 series travelmate with 2.0ghz dothan.

Cheers.

I bought a TM8104 a couple weeks ago. It worked beautifully for the first couple days, but after I'd finished loading all my software onto it I found that when listening to Music in iTunes my computer would stutter, and lock up terribly. The music would end up sounding more like a tape player on low battery, and when using other apps at the same time they would keep freezing for a couple seconds every other minute or so. I tested playing my music in Windows Media player, and while it performed a little better it was still far from perfect. But when I wasn't listening to any music the notebook ran flawlessly.

First I upgraded the BIOS to 3C22, which had no affect whatsoever. I then upgraded the Sound Card drivers, and which also did nothing. So I ended up rebuilding the machine using the system CD. And then loading iTunes first, and testing my music after each new program I added or change I made. I got the notebook back to the same configuration that it was originally in and I no longer had a problem with the sound.

The only thing I did differently was the order I installed all the software, so I really have no idea what fixed it, other than if there was something wrong with the initial build.

So I do just want to say to anyone experiencing similar problems, do a system restore before blaming the hardware. I was really against doing a restore after spending hours getting the notebook the way I wanted, but in the end it was probably quicker than spending hours try to find the problem.

Last month I bought TM8104 and my bios version is 3C23 dated 04/26/05. I find it strange since on Acer's website the latest is 3C22... Does anyone also have 3C23 or know what improvements it brings over 3C22?

I finally got around to doing a clean install of XPSP2 on my 8104 and it really seems must faster now. Boot times are in the 20second range compared to the 60+ seconds the stock load took. All in all, I am very pleased with my 8104.
If I wipe my harddrive and re-install Windows from an old CD, will I be able to re-install all of the drivers etc. on the System CD recovery disk?

You see, once I had a computer and I wiped the HD and I couldn't install from the recovery disk because there had been a special number written into the HD which was obviously removed. Does anything like this exist with the Travelmate?

Also, all of the software appears to be on the System Recovery CD so what are the other two Recovery disks for?

Cheers,

I.
