alright - got these on wednesday and i have to say they are pretty amazing
Contents:
comes with a powered amplifier (volume/on/off knob) with a pass through for your speakers so you dont have to keep plugging and unplugging and the headphone jack looks like an XLR thing though im not 100% sure
there are a wealth of cables that are supplied and it's pretty easy to figure out what goes where and what you need or dont need, there are also optional plain stereo inputs and the like
the instruction manual aint so great - just a bunch of diagrams, but really it should not be that difficult to set up
Sound/Performance:
remember these arent to listen to music, they're for 5.1 things like movies and games - although music does not sound half bad with these and the bass is really cool - it really rumbles and shakes your head - however if you want something to listen to music, get a good pair of sennheiser or sony headphones (i have the Sony MDR-V600 Stereo Headphones - one of the best investments i've ever made b/c music just sounds so incredible)
first to make sure that they were really 5.1 i dloaded microsoft's 6-speaker tester and sure enough these are the real deal - true 5.1 - i also did a bunch of tweaking with my soundcard and windows settings to get these to sound great; once i did all this i popped in some movies and man they really sound cool - Matrix Reloaded is just plain awesome - all the sound effects are much more present and stuff goes soaring past your head - really cool; tried it with call of duty and doom 3 and level of immersion was increased lol what can i say?
anyway - the only problems, which can be seen in the reviews all over the place, is that there is some white noise in the background, and if you're near a router you will hear a clicking noise (though i solved this simply by moving the antenna a bit) - white noise remains though but is easily gone whenever the headphones are in use - not a major problem at all
build quality seems decent with very minor flex on the amp itself, and the headphones seem pretty durable - they're huge but light enough to be comfortable for long periods of time; the only sketchy thing about these are the connector plugs - they seem kinda cheap but hey for $40 im not complaining - they work just fine
oh yeah and the chord is insanely long so dont worry about that
Conclusion:
i am very satisfied with this purchase because i really dont have the money, or space, for a real surround sound setup and with these i can watch movies late at night without waking up my parents or my neighbors (still in high school - which means when i go to college i wont have to lug a speaker system around
) - they sound great and are well worth the $40 i invested in them (bought off of newegg)
