Any utilities to control centrino clock speed?

Greetings all. I have been noticing that when I enter a server in Half Life 2 it reports my clock speed as being 800mhz rather than 2.0 ghz. I belive this to be a symptom of the speed step technology in the centrino processor that I have being clocked down when meerly connecting to a server, then maybe raising its clock speed when actually in game to take on the increased load. I am curious if ther eare any utilities which would allow me to control my processors clock speed manually, so that when I have it plugged in I could make it go 2.0 ghz all of the time. Does anyone know? Thanks for your time.

Try fiddling with various power schemes (Control Panel -> Power Options). I've found that setting the power scheme to "Always On" will force the CPU to run at full speed, while the default "Portable/Laptop" will throttle back to 800MHz or so.

Anyone tried to O/C the Sonoma platform?

smilepak there's a thread about sonoma OC'ing at xtreme forums. Looks like some people have been successful on the Acer 1694WLmi - i915GM chipset. I tried it on my z71v and it detected the chipset but the pll is incorrect.

I'm speaking with the author now to see if he can add support for the z71v.

@Tummy: would you be so kind as to post the link to that thread, I can't seem to find it (we are talking about xtremesystems.org?). Thanks.

Supported Acer Aspire 1694WLMi Intel915PM(ICH6-M)

Hmm the Asus Z71V uses the exact same chipset as the Acer Aspire, so it might work

is the thread I was referring to.

I spoke to the author of setFSB. He says he's not sure he can get it to work - he said he thinks the z71v can't set fsb by software.

But I know for a fact it can - if you run powergear for z71v, if you turn on "battery saving mode" you will notice that it drops FSB to 85 only. So there are at least 3 speeds - 85, 100, and 133. (in fact You can hard set 100/133 by jumper).
