Hypersonic notebook

Thread Starter
I am new here and am basically buying my first notebook. The notebook is for work; I own a custom design, install and retail home theater and automation company in Bermuda. Needless to say, I would like something high end; speed and looks included, to parrallel my industry which is high end electronics. The laptop will accompany me to customer homes to assist in in-room acoustics, audio calibration, etc and will be part of my presentation.

Ok, said that, I have built a new Aviator AX7, and have included the specs at the bottom for your review.

I need your help in both the brand itself and the processor I chose. I have read about hypersonic's dvd drive problems, both here and in mobile pc, which in my location will make it very hard to service.

So I guess in a round-a-bout way - is this a good way of spending $3500 on a laptop?? I really wanted to stay with the AMD 64 technology but there are so many posts, threads and articles on comparison on chips - I just dont know.

Thanks,
Mark

I own a GX7 which is the intel counterpart. As far as the dvd playback they released a bios flash for mine that corrected the choppy dvd playback so mine works perfect.

I am sure yours will come with it as mine needed the update but is 7 months old.

I would tell you to search for GX7 and AX7 and read the board with all the overheating issues it has. More for GX7 and the 256 9700 then the 128 the AX7 has.

Also I would look into the EX7 as it is fully user upgradable and will last you alot longer for barely more money. But I do recommend Hypersonic as I had to RMA my GX7 twice, this time around I expressed my concerns about what happens when the warrentee runs out now that the entire motherboard and gpu were being replaced and I was offered credit towards a new model. Very good customer service so far.

Enjoy,

I wasn't sure what you were talking about concerning DVD problems until Plexmark stated above. Were you talking about the video playback due to drivers/BIOS? If so, this was a major issue not only for Hypersonic, but all of the clevo based systems like the GX7. I know that once I had the BIOS upgraded, it was great.

I have to reiterate what Plexmark is stating about Hypersonic. They have been very helpful and the equipment I have received has been outstanding. Since I have received two different systems and the first one only had the plagueing artifact problem - fixed with a quick trip to Hypersonic last fall - it is doing quite well and kicking butt.

If you are set on the AMD processor, then there should be an AMD version coming out soon. Check the forums because I know there has been a lot of discussion about that. I personally would think twice before getting the AX7 it is an older model (about 10 months or so), but I am sure there is a AMD version around the corner. But speak to sales - don't take my assumption.

As for the location of where you are - I stated this in our other post of my review. Not sure what are the best options there.

Take care.

We had problems with DVD playback, but thanks to the BIOS and driver update that has been resolved.
