Video Drivers Yet? - Page 3

Mine shipped yesterday (Friday), but upon checking 3dMark03 it still reports my GPU clock speed as 344.3/236.3.

Installing the drivers

For those who have successfully updated their video drivers for a Radeon, here's a question. What was the procedure you used? I had a heck of a time trying to install 3.7s with a 9600 Pro Ultimate on my desktop.

Do you need to uninstall the existing drivers and, if yes, do you use any special utilities to clean up files and registry enties that the uninstall process misses.

Thanks.

ati drivers

when i bought an ati all-in-wonder radeon in jan 2000, no combination of drivers would allow it to run stable in windows 2000. this was very upsetting at the time since i spent like $250 on it. so i used windows ME (!) for a while for games and dual booted. after 3 months the drivers situation improved and everything was good. i think ati realizes they have a reputation to change so i wouldnt be surprised if in a while the blotchiness problems will be addressed and everything will be fine. just a story to give you hope and not feel so disapointed with your new computer.

so... that's interesting... so far the only ones affected are some of those that installed it themselves...

is this a hint?

Nah, my 8890 was preinstalled with xp pro and I have it, not as noticable in 32 bit color but there still.

i have no blotchyness...and i reformatted 3 times. i'm starting to get good at remembering the order to install drivers. i only notice the slight bandness in gradients...but thats it. everything else is all good.
Well I installed the OS myself as well so maybe it is something to do with that, though I can't think what.

The blotchyness is mostly visable in IE where you have file and edit etc. Thats a sort of very pale green/blue which gets blocky towards the Help menu.
I have also noticed it in games where it doesn't seem to blend correctly. If you look at the sky in a game for instance you can see it.

While I did install the OS in my 8890 & I see the problem, I bought my previous 8887v with the OS pre-installed & it showed it also.

i'm looking right at the spot ur noticing blotchyness and i don't see anything. i've spent the past 5 minutes looking for any blotchyness in ie and don't see anything. i know this might be redundant...but have u installed the 7.93 drivers?
I've set my color depth to 32 bit and I have ZERO blotchyness.
My 5680 came OS preinstalled and I had the blotchyness. I've fixed mine however at 32bit and WHQL drivers.... the new drivers on the Sager website brought the blotchyness back, but I forgot to try 32bit....... REMEMBER TO RESTART YOUR COMPUTER AFTER CHANGING DRIVER AND SWITCHING TO 32BIT !!!

Hey guys, what's the best way of uninstalling/installing the old and new drives? I don't want to screw anything up.

First uninstall the old drivers either using Add/Remove Programs or the ATI uninstall Utility.... Restart...... then install the new driver.... set to 32 bit..... restart

Just Add/Remove Programs it.... remove anything that says ATI...

I am using the latest drivers and they seem to be OK so far.

I have run CS, RTCW, Warcarft III and TW Shogun.

There is still some "blotchiness" on some things, like the default XP wallpaper. I don't really notice it though and I am not sure if it is any worse than anything else. I thought it was probably caused by the fact I am running a 1600x1200 display and there are errors scaling up.

It could also be caused if you are using 16 bit colour (check your display settings in the control panel).
