Modular bay battery?

I was thinking about picking up a "6 Cell - 48 Whr Li-ion Battery " for my 8600 that goes into the modular bay.

I was wondering roughly how much additional battery time this would give me. I hate having to plug in my laptop while in class, and i never use the cd while there either.

At least 2 hours. You might want to get the 80 WHr primary battery instead that will give you at least 4.5 hrs.

Hmmmm ummm

I am not sure what size mine is for modular bay (are there different ones?)
but the one I got with my 8600 gives me on average around 3.5 extra on normal use..

with it and a full internal one I get over 6 hours easy ... close to 7 i believe...

Those seem like the max you'll get. Still, what I said is true.

Yes. It's kind of weird. The 72 Whr 9-cell is offered for 8600 but d800 offers a 9-cell 80 Whr primary battery. Since they're compatible systems, you can interchange batteries on the systems. Unless someone can correct me.

Here is the 9-cell 72 Whr battery listed under 8600 parts:

In my experience, the modular battery gives me about 2 and a half hours of extra battery time, or 3 hours if I'm just doing light work/surfing with the screen dimmed. It's worth it to me...sure the primary battery would give you extra time, but this way, I don't need to shut the computer down to swap batteries. That having been said, I'm looking to get an extra primary battery too, just to keep on hand for when I'm away from home for an extra long time.

700m modular bay battery

I know it's not in Dell's catalogue (yet), but is there a third party modular bay battery for the 700m?

Does anyone know for sure if there are power connectors inside the bay to start with?

I just checked, there are no power connectors inside the drivebay.

Bummer!

Thanks for that.

hmmmm.... Can you see a mod coming up? If we could get a battery in there, I'm sure it'll be good for 14 hours with a slim battery in the back!

Unless someone can figure out how to supply power via a IDE connector, there would be no modular bay battery.

I'm talking about two short external wires running from the mod bay to the power connector across or around the RJ11 & RJ45 ports. No need to connect it to the IDE connector inside

Whaddaya reckon?

Unless Dell makes something along that line, I doubt any other company would put the time and money to develop it because they will have to sell quite a few of them before recouping their costs.

I get about 6 hours with the primary battery (53 Wh) and the modular bay battery (48 Wh) on my D600. On the M60 I get about five hours (80 Wh + 48 Wh).

anyone know if that will work in the 9100/xps (first gen)?

I'm at about 3 hours with my 9100 (12 cell, undervolted p4 3.0ghz northwood) .. with the 16cell and the modular bay battery I might actually be able to leave the power brick at home when I go to class.
