BestCase for Dell 700m yet reasonably light and small - Page 3

A quick update.

Last Friday, I ordered the Skooba Compact Sleeve and the Sumdex Compact Computer Brief from eBags. I received both these bags yesterday and my initial impressions are as follows:

I just got a new Dell 700m with the 8-Cell extended battery and it fits perfectly in both bags, almost as if both bags were designed specifically for the 700m. Of the two, the Skooba has larger external dimensions mainly due to it having more generous padding. This isn't to say that the Sumdex is unpadded. No, the Sumdex is nicely padded enough for the daily commute to the office. However, the Skooba just has significantly more padding, especially at the bottom of the case. You just feel more confident that the Skooba will do a much better job of protecting the laptop should you drop the case. The Sumdex is a smart, handsome case and quite attractive when you see it. It won't look out of place if you're wearing a business suit. The Skooba is obviously a lot casual-looking. However, I could not pass up getting the Sumdex because it's only under $15 and it's a steal at that price. No matter which one you decide to get, rest assured that the Dell 700m with the extended battery will fit perfectly in either one. You can just about squeeze in the power adapter in them too, but not much else as they're very slim cases. Think of them as padded sleeves with handles.

I've been reading and reading and I'm at odds between getting the Skooba Compact or the Sumdex Compact. I want something to fit my 700m with extended battery snug (not tight). Do you have pics of both of these with your lappy inside? During this crucial stage in my life I want to feel confident in my purchase for my dear computer.

Samsonite l25 UP case

Samsonite L25 UP

I just picked up this case at buy.com. It's reasonably priced and has free shipping. The dimensions look good for my 700m with the 8 cell batt. Ill update with pics when i get it.

No pics. But the Dell 700m will fit either case without stretching. If you want protection, go for the Skooba. It's got thicker padding. If your 700m is that "dear" to you, get the Skooba.

also check out the roadwired APS compact, which is a sleeve rather than the more case-like Skooba from the same company.

I think I'm going to go ahead with the Skooba. Its got good dimensions and doesn't have a flap. A case the size for a computer that's not even 12'' across ends up looking like a purse rather than a sleeve.

Excellent choice. You won't regret it.

Well I ordered the Skooba. I decided to take advantage of the Earth Day 10% off sale. Not that it mattered. I'll post pics and review when it comes in. I know how hard it took for me to find a sleeve that would fit well with the 700m + 8hr. batt. and am glad these forums exist to help me out.

will the "RoadWired Skooba Sleeve Compact
(SKU-710) (CT11-47940)" from ebags.com fit the 700m with an 8-cell battery?

backpack-It fits 700 with extended battery perfectly. Too casual for my taste but it looks harmless/less likely to steal? So i kept it. But it was cheaper by @$10 when I bought it @ 2 weeks ago.

Sigh...... Read one of my earlier posts on this thread and you'll have your answer.

I posted about that skooba bag earlier, it was "bag of the year"-2005.

I think thats the one im going to go for, i will just slip it into my backpack and take it to school. I wanted my laptop to fit nicely with about 2 other textbooks. Also being safe from harsh-everyday use be great, and i think the skooba offers that protection i want. Protection is my biggest concern.

So far skooba seems to be the best, anyone of pics of their skooba with the 700m?

THanks

Edit: Did the skooba bag come with a shoulder strap?

Yes, it sure did. A fairly decent one actually, but I quickly replaced it with a Lowepro shoulder strap. It has a thick, gel-padded shoulder pad that, essentially, makes it feel like you're not carrying anything at all.

Where can you get this Lowpro shoulder strap? Sounds like a neat function to have. Thanks!

I got the strap from Ebay more than a year ago. Actually, I got about 6 or 7 of them. Can't remember exactly how much I paid but the seller gave me a discount since I got several. If you do a search on eBay for "lowepro strap" you might find it. If not, this one is a pretty good buy too:

Found that LowePro padded strap. Right here, and being sold by the same dealer I got them from too:
