Promise RAID HDD Temperature Monitor

Thread Starter
Well I was using Mobile Meter to monitor my HDDs when they were in ATA mode on the RAID controller but now that I've upgraded my 8790 to dual 80GB 5400RPM HDDs and configured them as a RAID 0 array Mobile Meter can no longer report the HDD temps.
I tested a really nice SMART HDD monitor application www.ariolic.com but it didn't work. I contacted them and they say its because the Promise RAID Controller driver for XP doesn't support the SMART command set.
Anybody out there know of any way to monitor the HDD temps when going through a Promise RAID Controller?
Is there a different driver I could use?
(I sent an email to Promise too JIC they can help.)
My drives feel very hot during high activity and using Fn+F10 to kick the fans on wide open helps but I'd like to know exactly what temperature the drives are operating.

I would say no since the only driver I have found to be reliable in all it's stages of usage is the Promise driver. Microsoft tries to load it's generic driver for the promise and it causes it to lock up and cause BSOD's. Your only hope will be Promise. Are the drives Samsungs?

Not Samsung. Hitachi (IBM) HTS54808 80GB 5400RPM
According to Promise they do not support the SMART commands in their driver and therefore none of the monitor programs can access the drive condition or status.
Is this stupid or what?

If you find a fix for this, I too am interested as I have always been running my two drives in Raid-0.

in principle the temps will be the same as in non-raid mode.
yes both disks are active at the same time so you might see a slight increase in overall heat load.
