USB mic fixes 88XX audio input problems.

OK, I ordered a Logitec USB headset in the evening and got it about 12:30 the next day. I only ordered UPS ground so they did a great job. Granted, they are in Dallas, TX and I am about 30 miles south of Oklahoma City. This is the set I bought.

Provantage

The mic on it runs throught the USB connection too. They also have a cheaper set and just a plain USB microphone. With these you don't have to have the TV tuner running in the background. You do have to go into the control panel, into Sounds and Audio Devices, where you set the headset (or mic if that is what you got) as the input device for voice and sounds. That's all there is to it. It works great from there.

Adam, you reall should look into carrying these USB headsets and mics. I think it would help a lot to have them available from you.

Great post, Jeff! I am wondering, is there any problems when/if one uses S/PDIF (turned on in the BIOS)? Or do these completely bypass the sound card/chips?

I use the famous $37 4.1 speaker set (altec lansing, from compuplus.com) and have the S/PDIF turned on. I know when SPDIF is used, the internal mic (under the LCD) is OFF, hence my inquiry.

Myrkat, I will check that out. I don't remember what my settings are right now. Now, if I can just get my timing down right on that ctrl/alt/s thing it won't take me half an hour to get into it.

I must have come in a little late...but what does the tv tuner running in the background have to do with a usb headset?

Myrkat, it must have done a complete by-pass because it works with it enabled. You may have to switch back and forth (in the control panel not the BIOS) for your output devices when you want to use the headset opposed to the speakers, but that is about all I can see that would need to change.

Unpilot, this is an old issue with the 88XX series. In order to record with the built in or other microphone, you have always had to have the TV tuner running in the background. The USB type microphones go around that hardware setup and allow you to input more normally. The USB headset I have has a built in microphone.
