Getting my 9300 tomorrow - what do i uninstall? - Page 2

Received my 9300 on Tuesday... There's no OS CD, but there is an option to burn one (in the Start menu under Dell Accessories). After you burn one copy, the option goes away.

Start > All Programs > Dell Accessories

There were two shortcuts in there - one to display your express service code, and another to burn an OS CD. After I burned the OS CD, the second shortcut went away.

There was no way to make a backup cd on the 9300 I received on Tuesday. The shortcut was not there. This was Media Center Edition. The restore partion was there. I restored it before returning it today.

just contact dell and tell them you no longer have the restore partition and would like a copy of OS...did that the day I got my 9300...received the disk about a week later...

I'm currently asking for additional discounts, so I'll wait till those are settled.

There was no way to make it on my 9300 with MCE. That's good that it's just not my computer. Will call and see what I can do tomorrow.

I just finished a fresh install, so I can now say for certain that the "Dell OS Recovery Disk" (which, by the way, I now have 2 copies of since my replacement HD came pre-imaged ) is a standard WinXP disk. It doesn't come with any of the extra garbage, and you can repartition as you please.

closely examine that disk BT, you probably still have hidden dell partitions.

I have a copy of XP Pro already, should I Format and install that, or just use the XP HOME that I ordered?

How will I reinstall all the drivers? and the programs?

No, I deleted the hidden partitions during the WinXP setup.

That is funny. I burned the OS CD using the recovery utility anbd I did have to enter an activation code and used the one that is on a label on the bottom of the laptop (9300). I will confirm however that it seems to be just a straight WinXP (home in my case) disc. Not with all the stuff that came preloaded on my computer.

[quote=flux73]Huh? Is this right? Why won't there be an OS cd? We're paying for it!

I called Dell today because the software for creating the OS disk was not there. I am getting my OS and Driver cd's delivered Monday. It seems that Dell is sometimes installing the right software and sometimes not and in my case no backup installation software was on my I9300.

I'll be getting my 9300 soon and want to reinstall windows. I'm scared I'll **** all the drivers up though. I can just see it now, my touchpad won't work or something even worse. I've done a search of these forums and can't seem to find exact instruction on doing this for the i9300 XP MCE. ??

Also, if I do burn a backup cd from that start-Dell accesories-backup cd option will it reinstall the drivers for me too? Without the Dell bloatware?
just go to the dell site and install the touchpad drivers from there...they carry all the drivers for the 9300 on 1 page, i just dont use the video drivers they provide
