If I understand right, the pipes are only cut on the newer cards. On new cards there are two cuts, the older ones only have one that is unrelated to the pipes. This suggests we only need a bios mod.

Oh ok. I was thinking each cut was like 4 pipes enabled. 8 stock then 12 if you bridge one and another 4 for 16. I need to look at mine.

Hi all i'm new to this forum and i wondered if you could answer a question: I have an Inspiron 9100 with a ATI radeon mobility 9700 64 meg. Will a radeon mobility 9800 fit straight into my 9100? I'm having trouble trying to find a 9800 over here in the UK I'm pretty desperate to get one installed on my laptop. I do quite a bit of UT 2004 mapping etc and the extra speed and graphics mem would be great.

It seems that AtiTool does not detect 12 pipelines in the mobility x800 either. Not sure how we would ever know if the mobility 9800 had 12 pipelines.

I have installed the latest ATI drivers, 5.6, and am getting 3DMark scores on par with a mobility x800. I wonder if a driver and hard mod was all that was needed to get 12 pipelines? That is just speculation, it could just be the drivers giving me the increase.

hey raelcun ,, read my posts ! wizzard confirmed that it is 12 pipes from the string your ATI tools gave us . He says he will soon release a patch !!!

Is there any news on the new card issue ? I see it's been a while since the last post was made. Also, do you know of any place to buy the 9800 ? Dell work's with local companies so they might have old ones in stock. If you order at Dell directly you'll get a new one...

I'm confused, did you guys ever get the mr9800 to unlock? i see in one of the sigs a 12 pipe 9800, so how did you do it?

saw some comments from Whack about the old versus newer 9800s, and well, mine would be one of the originals, should I even look for the laser cut or did that turn out to be nothing? no one's updated this in a long while
