A70 - Resource Conflict - PCI network controller......

Having troubles with the built in Atheros wireless card conflicting with the Realtek lan.

I'm a computer tech, we have mostly all Toshiba's at the university that I support. These newer A70's are starting to piss me off.

A70-00V (Canadian)

Anyways, here's the symptom's

Wireless will work fine for a while. Matter of fact I had the laptop for at least a month before problem occured. Laptop bought late Dec, early Jan. Anyways, the wireless sill start to hang, causing laptop to hang, then eventually it'll drop connection. This happens at random. You can reboot sometimes to get it back. eventually what happens is you'll reboot, and on POST you'll get this error

Resource Conflict - PCI network Controller in Slot 03 Bus:02, Device:02, Function:00

Once you see that, you can skip pass the error and boot, but sure enough the wireless is either gone or disabled ( famous yellow ! mark) in Device manager.

Yes I've tried reformatting...problem came back.

You can somtimes get around it for a few days by taking off the Realtek Drivers, and atheros drivers, and reinstalling one by one. But sure enough, the problem comes back.

I've since taken the WLAN out of the machine, and I'm using a dlink pcmcia card. Doing this there is no problem at all with the laptop concerning wireless, but that is not the point. I shouldn't have to use another wireless card at all.

Of course I have the infamous sound problem once it goes to sleep as well, but that is not related.

We have another identical laptop in the dept. It has been sitting in a box for a good month or more never used. I gave it to someone today to see if the problem happens on that one as well.

I can't find any mention of any solution on Toshiba's "wonderful" support site.

I have found others online with the same problem, but no solution yet.

Anyone help?

Well i didnt have exact problem...
But you could try to give your Wcard a constant adress, not the auto-configure one.
And try to use Windows XP WIHTOUT sp2
Just use sp1 with all updates that can be loaded on it.
Try to disable 100Mbs lan card in device manager when using Wcard.
And also if you been using recovery DVD try using just normal Winodws XP cd, cause with recovery dvd it installs tons of stuff that is very annoying, and disk space consuming (i.e. AOL internet... etc)
Well just try and let us know how it goes.

Look at the services running. See if you can force the wireless card to start first or last by setting dependencies. I guess that since the problem is intermittant, it depends on what starts first.

I have the same exact model, haven't had any issues. When you say that you have reformated, are you loading up from the Toshiba CD or are you loading Windows yourself?

Have you tried reinstalling the wireless device with an updated driver? I am using driver version 3.3.2.4.

I got same problem and it fine after removed the wireless card.

Atheros Wireless A/B/G.

Solution for the Problem....

This is caused by a bad Atheros Mini-PCI card with a cold solder joint.

Get the card replaced and you'll be fine.

I fought with this for 4 weeks until I finally got Toshiba to replace the card.

There is a wireless card issue with these model causing that error to occur every some many boots. It will cause failures in windows such as no wireless connection or flaky connection. The only thing that has ever fixed it for me is to have the wireless card itself replaced.

Can I simply disable the WiFi in hardware settings to avoid the errors, or do I have to physically remove the card?

Also, how do I disconnect the white and black antenna cables from the card? They appear to be soldered on...

i know this is probably WAY long time ago post but i will answer it (might as well). The antenna cables just snap off, be careful with them but they easy snap on and off without much effort. These people are getting BIOS errors, which are completly before any bootloader or any OS is active. I have a post on another forum about this as i am experiencing this but with EVERY boot. I have tried linux to manual enable irq's for the cards but with no go. Linux will detect EVERYTHING about the internal nic and mini pci wireless card in it. But will not work due to the resource conflict (apparently). Drivers are installed and hardware is "present" but just will not work at all.... kinda annoying and it looks like i not the only one with these problems on the ole internet.
