I read that if anyone except an Apple Tech opens up a PowerBook, the warranty/AppleCare is gone. So if I install RAM on my own, the warranty is gone?

they don't give u directions if it voids the warranty 
the only issue is that if u send it in for service u may wanna pull the 3rd party RAM and reinstall the original stuff. if an apple tech were to feel in any way that the RAM was at play in whatever issue was at hand, they may look at it, replace it w/ "apple" stuff and charge u thru the nose for it. but then again, i'd hope that u'd trouble shoot the RAM in the 1st place b4 sending it in.
