Cheap Processor Upgrade? - Page 9

few questions about hardware OC

if you use this mod to make a 1.6@400 into a 2.13@533, would everything on the FSB increase too? like, is the FSB increased or just the CPU. would this be the same as simply buying a sonoma with the 2.13, just a helluva lot cheaper?

could you also just use one of those mobo programs to bump the FSB to 533? or would you have to clock everything else down?

The only way to do this is with a Pinmod.

The only thing that is going to be changed is the FSB Speed. Everthing else will remain the same.

That is the appeal of this mod, you can take a $200 1.6/400 and with one piece of wire make it a 2.13/533. For over $450 less than a real 2.13

doesnt the FSB speed control the speed of the PCI, the RAM, etc? will increasing this speed increase the others as well?

the system has dividers to account for these. it runs no differently than if you put in a native 533fsb cpu in. it adjusts accordingly.

if i get one of those mobo mod programs, and oc the FSB to 533, AND do this CPU mod, could i, in theory, quasi-safely turn a Centrino into a Sonoma? i dont see a problem with the cpu or ram, but will i have to downclock the pci, and if so, how?

that doesnt make any sense. when you do this mod, you are completely changing it to be identical to a 533fsb version.

and if you only use a fsb adjusting program, it wont lock down your pci/agp so you wont be too healthy in that respect.

sorry, im kinda a newb in the computer specifics department, but im a sophomore computer engineering major and im tryin to learn as much as i can.

so there's no way to get the pci or agp back down to normal speeds if i crank up the fsb. i smell a future thesis paper topic

First of all there is no way to adjust the FSB from anything else other than 100MHZ or 133MHZ. This depends on what the chipset (I915) reads from the BSEL[0] Pin on the CPU. If its a logic high its 100FSB, if its a logic low its 133FSB.

The PLL chip that Dell uses is not adjustable by any know means atm.

The Dividers are set up for these 2 FSB Speeds. Regardless of either 133 or 100 FSB, your PCI bus will be locked at 33.33Mhz.

So how can I make my 2.0 760 run at 2.6ghz? Is it possible?

no

will people please read before posting. this mod only works for 7x5 series that are running 400fsb right now. the whole concept of this mod is that it converts your 400fsb to 533fsb 7x0 models.

LOL, I've read the whole thread. Just because the mod described in this thread does not do this, does not mean that other mods are not possible. Will people please THINK before posting.

Sure, solder out the PLL chip and put one in that allows overclocking.

i have a 1.86ghz processor in my 9300, is mine upgradeable?

15x173=2600

sure
find a way to run your fsb at 173then

Shyt, and I thought my pc was easy to overclock. I think it's really odd that Intel would release a processor that is so scalable. Like somebody else said, they could have put it on the market at higher speeds and blown away the competition. That makes me wonder if AMD does the same thing. That way both companies can do minimal work and still throttle the market. That's the problem with having only two companies, they can easily control the market. I guess they never thought there would be anybody smart enough to uncover their secrets. Pretty tight shyt for those of us that can read, though.

Has already tried someone a replacement with a 1,8Ghz Pentium M Dothan?
A successful attempt would mean 2,4GHz (!!!)
A friend of mine has a 1,8GHz Dothan capable of doing 2,26GHz with 1,2V, only. unfortunately he is not able to adjust 1,34V :-(
Perhaps it also would be able to do 2,4Ghz at nominal 1,34V...
Other question is - what will do the sytem - bios???
I think it never will exist a Pentium M with 2,4Ghz...

I am currently bidding on a pentium m 1.8 ghz and am going to purchase some arctic silver 5 to interface between the heatsink and the cpu, something which no one has tried yet (seemingly.) Better contact with CPU with thermal grease + multi unlocked downward = I can probably manage 2.2 if it fails 2.4. The real difference is that I"m going to use an acer travelmate 8100...
