Unfortunately for me, my 1.8 --> 2.4 mod on my XPS2 did not turn out well. The laptop would POST and I could get into BIOS. BIOS reported that is was running at 2.4 GHz, but as soon as Windows started to load, BAM, BSOD, Windows has shut down your computer to prevent damage.....STOP 0x0000007E... So I tried grounding Vid3 to give it a little more voltage. No difference, same result. I thought maybe it was just that particula installation of Windows, so I tried a reinstall and it spontaneously rebooted or BSOD'ed during setup. So for now, I'm back at 2.0 GHz. At least I put AS5 on my proc so it runs about 4-5 degrees cooler now.
One note, if anyone pulls the GPU heatsink to put AS5 on, be carefull putting it back on. I read somewhere on this forum that the screws were hard to get to engage when putting them back in. So, I was turning pretty hard to get one of them to engage and the friggin' screw snapped off in the standoff. It doesn't seem to have affected the temps or performance, but just a warning. I guess if it does become an issue, I can buy another heatsink and standoff from Dell small parts.
Oh well, you win some and you lose some... Anyone interested in a (barely) used 1.8 GHz 400fsb Pentium M?
