Heh this mod was so easy to do . It's cool to see so many people getting this crazy performance gain! Obviously Intel has their die yield way up if we are seeing 100% as far as I can tell with both 1.5 to 2.0 and 1.6 to 2.13. I imagine the yield could improve a little in the future too.

I want to warn all of you who wish to do this mod.

My computer began some strange artifacting a few days ago; it seemed every other pixel on the monitor was giving me some strange color. I took it back apart to troubleshoot the problem...

Well, now the computer only boots 1 in 50 times. I've narrowed it down to an issue of power, as well as a bridge that connects the two parts of the chassis, and the screen to the motherboard (as well as the screen's power.)

My warning to you is, be VERY CAREFUL. Wrecking your parts isn't a good feeling, AT ALL. I have a low paying job and am just graduating from high school, so if they figure out that I voided the warrenty, I'll have to pay out the nose to get it fixed. It won't be difficult when I show them the CPU and all that good stuff inside of it.

Success, eventual failure :P Even as I type the screen artifacts in strange ways beyond description. The bridge is having trouble being seated I suppose.

I almost destroyed my eMachines 6805 a few times. But it still works today. Had to rig up some things inside, but I knew how to do it. Like, for example, the keyboard ribbon is far more fragile than I originally imagined. I had to buy a new keyboard after a few times of removing that cable cuz it got messed up. Another ribbon that ran to the power button assembly also broke but I managed to make a new one out of a CDROM's ribbon (wrecked a CDROM to do it though).

Yes it's very risky opening these machines up. People don't seem to realize that. It's not a desktop in there. Everything is customized and is not designed for frequent disassembly.

The 9300 is very easy to work on due to its size though. As long as you follow Dell's awesome guides (I've never seen guides so well done by a manufacturer) you are pretty safe. It does take a lot of disassembly to get at the CPU though.

well now I'm sitting a little prettier than I did before. I can boot all the time now but can't really touch the chassis much because then major artifacts occur. I'm going to go in tonight and reseat everything perfectly so that the bridge won't be the source of my troubles anymore.

as long as everything still works - I even reconnected my power-to-motherboard bridge port while it was still plugged in - needless to say I saw sparks, but that's when everything started working again. :P

I have my keyboard and mouse plugged into it so that touching the chassis actually doesn't have to occur. I can say from this experience that I'm a little wiser than before and hope that when in a month the whole computer sets fire Acer will honor their warrenty :P

Hey Lucid...is this the processor you got with the "buy it now" and included shipping? I am the Ebay seller. (BTW, how about some feedback)

Man I knew I should have hung on to that processor!!!! I was too chicken to bust open the new laptop and see what it could do...oh well. Glad it worked out for you! Great job!!!!

Oh yeah, it already had AS5 on it when I sent it. Although I'm sure it could have used some more.

No.
You'll have to buy a new CPU.

I'll be kind and answer this question for about the 1000th time.
You can ONLY do this pin mod with a 400MHz FSB CPU on a 533MHz FSB board!
Maybe it should be a rule that if you don't understand what you're actually doing when you do this mod, that you shouldn't do it.

Hell, that should be the way you think anyways. You should never blindly trust someone and just hope he wasn't lying.

What if I said you could make your computer 10x faster if you stick your finger in the electrical outlet. Hell, I could even photoshop some "screenshots" to prove it to you. But that doesn't mean anything.

Reasoning does.

Understand it.

PLEASE

UPDATE:

Strangely, while passed stress tests, my 1700-2266 cpu gave "little" while playg HL2.
I think it's more an alimentation problem, as probably was the video card to give errors, in fact the game simply sopped and the desktop came back.
So I rised a little the voltage shorting Vid2 leading at 1,404V and now things are PERFECT.
The fan acts as before but only starts a little before..
I'm waiting another cpu at same speed, I'll hold the best, the other will come back.

Ciao

Feedback left

Yah it didn't have much on it when I recieved it, and I just stuck it on the stock thermal pad. I'm still working on 100% stability. I got it to run prime @ 2.66 for 7 hours @ 70 degrees... and was happy as hell about that. Then I put the keyboard back on and it shot up to 73 and failed after 20 mins. Wouldn't think that keyboard would make a 3 C difference, but whatever.

I am satisfied with the results because even if I don't see a stable 2.66 (which I still plan on seeing ) I have a rock solid, stable 2.53.

oh and reaver... I'll see you in that 5k thread soon buddy
