It might be a good or bad thing depending on what you use your computer for.
Nevermind, I read it! I dont have the PM 915. What I am looking to do is overclock my current 9300 of PM 2.0 533 to something like 2.26 (Stable) or higher (stable).

No I didn't use AS5, I just used some basic Radio Shack goop I had laying around. Might have to do the AS5 thing as a future maintenance update if it makes that much of a difference.

As a side note, I moved my lappie to a new location in the house last night and I didn't get the temp above 63C at 2.26GHz / 1.324V. Much happier with that, so I'll keep it there!

Aint it winter time down under? Mine is currently running 60*c full load in a 73*f room.
What program are you guys using to get the temperatures?
Centrino Hardware Control. Except today my laptop froze and now no longer posts.

God hates me, obv.

i8kfangui is the only way to go. Has great stats and alarms and allows you to control the fans based on temp.

I agree that I8kfangui is great software, and there's a modified version that I did up called I9kfangui that add's a bunch more options and features.. search here for i9kfangui or try the link in my sig.. (my site has been having alot of DNS issues, so if it's down, try again after abit)

Winter, yes, but on mid-east coast Oz it doesn't get very cold compared to our northern friends - 6C in the morning is the lowest I have seen where I live. Room temp has been about 22C with my reported system temperatures, ie similar to yours.

Was able to get a 1.6GHZ/100 FSB CPU running at 2.13GHZ/133 FSB in my Inspiron 6000. Pretty easy mod overall except I had to disassemble the system a second time because it would not boot up at all after the first try (much quicker to disassemble the second time...didn't even need the directions).

Rather than laying the wire across the socket holes I wrapped a small wire around the pins and just put the CPU back in the socket. On the first try part of the wire must have been touching one of the other adjacent pins since it did not boot. I took it out, strained the heck out of my eyes and readjusted the wire to make sure it was not shorting out any adjacent pins.

I now need to do some stability testing but I doubt that 2.13 GHZ will be a problem.

Thanks for all the helpful info.

ah the wire wrap trick

i was originally going to do that but it's just too damn difficult on these things, so i stuck to the pinmod

Make sure your wire does not protrude too far into the socket. It should not be any longer than 1/4" total. You are trying to connect the pins not trying to connect the traces in the socket. If the wire is too long you stand a good chance of connecting adjacent holes in the socket itself.

For those temperatures you guys measured, I assume they are measured with the fan off?

If you are refering to my reported temps they were with the fans at bios default speeds, 100% cpu load. 3000 rpm for both cpu and gpu fans.
The bios runs the fans at 3 speeds: 2600, 3000 and 3800.

No for me. I have set IK8fangui to kick in low speed fan at 50C and high speed fan at 70C. ie. When I speak of 63-67C, that's with the fan at low speed, not off.

I just did the pinmod from 1.6 to 2.13, works just fine, are working on lowering the volt now. Hoping to find the lowest possible :- )

I have 2 9300 one came with a stock 1.6 479pin cpu and the other came with a stock 1.6 478pin is this normal. I did replace the 1.6 479pin with a 2.13 479pin.
All Dothan/Sonoma CPU's are 479 pin, both your 9300's are 479. 478 is P4 only.

Hi!

Can I use this one? Or is it to much?

Thanks in advance!

It fits. But 2.66 GHz is too much and it will probably fail Prime95 after 10 seconds, or won't even boot!

Highest recommended is 1.7@2.26!
