What brand of DVD-RW works with the Toshiba SD-R6112

I used DVDShrink to make a copy of a DVD I own on my Sager 8890. I then was able to burn it as a DVD-Video using the program which came with my notebook, Nero Express (with the latest updates) to a Fujifilm DVD-R (at 2X speed which is the rated speed for both drive and discs) which worked perfectly.

When I tried to burn it to Verbatim Datalife DVD-RW at 1X speed (the rated speed of both the drive and the discs) I ended up with Nero saying "write error" every time just as it tried to burn.

So what brand of DVD-RW's has anyone had success with, please.

Thanks.

The only brand of DVD-RW I have tried in my 8890 was Virbatum & it worked fine.

Did you use them to try to make a DVD Video, or just for data backup. Also, did you use them with packet writing software (direct CD or INCD) or to normal burn with Nero?

Thanks

I only use DVD-R(with DVD X Copy)to copy movie disc's or burn video from my Elura camcorder. All I did with DVD-R was a data disc using Nero normal burn & that worked fine.

I haver never used packet writing software for either CD-R or DVD-R. I use Nero version 6.0, not the version that came with my 8890.

I would be glad to test mine with a DVD-RW & a movie, but I don't have a DVD-RW disc handy.

If I get a hold of one this weekend, I will test it & post the results

Thanks.

Also, I contacted Toshiba suport and after saying "we can't endorse one product over another, bla, bla, bla" he said users of previous DVD writers before the 6112 had success with TDK Maxell and Verbatim media, so I wonder if my writer is just broken?

It could be I suppose, I know I have had excellent results from Virbatum for both CD-R & DVD-R for quite a while now.

UPDATE

Well, it appears Nero Express 6 is a piece of crap.

Uninstalled it. Installed a copy of Nero 5.5 I had, updated it for free to latest version from Nero website, used this page for the settings to use, and it appears that it is working now (at least it started burning which is farther than I got before) will let you know when it finishes whether it was completely successful.

Those are exactly the same settings I use with Nero 6.

spoke too soon. It burned one disc fine, but only my computer recognized it--not my set top dvd player (which might be the Apex set top's fault (though reviews seem to imply my model will use these discs). Then the second time I tried to burn I got a coaster. Gotta believe that the Toshiba just doesn't like these dvd-rw discs.
