I was wondering... What would I need to do to get my Z-640 system (not the 680) hooked up to SPDIF?? I really don't understand what spdif is, other than optical signal... Thanks!!

Well, on my 8887 I use the included RCA-to-minijack adapter cable and plug the RCA-style S/PDIF in that way (I'm using an Altec Lansing 56W 4.1 setup that runs $37).

Does the Z-640 have TOS or RCA? What laptop do you have?

I'd think the speaker set comes with the appropriate cables, but you never know.

I got a 5670, and it's got the spdif hole. The speakers use 6 channel sound. But it's got three connecting cables. One for left right, one for back left back right, and one for Sub and i think center. What's a SPDIF Cable look like... it doesn't have metal tip correct??

There are two basic types: OPTICAL and RCA... now, there should only be ONE connecting to your computer (that's the point of S/PDIF, I believe).

Try google to learn more about S/PDIF, I'm no expert, but I am pretty certain there is supposed to only be one connection to the sound source, then out to the speakers (usually from the sub).
