One complaint about my 5680...

I've been gaming a bit with my new 'top, and i found one problem (for me at least).

When i play battlefield, i fly with only keyboard. Its how i have always done it. However, it seems that will have to change for me now. Why? I found i cannot press more than 2 keys at a time. If i do, the last command gets locked in untill i let go.

For example. W/S is my throttle, A/D is my rudder, <-/-> is my roll, and up/down is my pitch. So, lets say im flying full forward, and try turning.. i cant. If i hit roll first, then i just stick in a roll when i hit rudder. Same for rudder first.

So, short of buying an external board, any way to fix this??

Use the mouse

This was an issue with the x1000 compaq as well I think. Its a PITA but not the end of the world. Still it would be nice if there was a patch for it.

You can't fix that with a patch. It's a property of the keypress buffer that's part of the keyboard circuitry.

So the 5680's keyboard can't accept more than 2 button presses at a time? This seems like it would be a rather severe limitation for certain games. I know there are plenty of times in certain FPS that I'd have 3 or more simultaneous key presses. Anyone have any further information?

yeah, that is a bit of a shame. I'd think 3 should be the absolute minimum.

Wonder if we could talk Sager into sourcing an alternate keyboard with a higher maximum multiple-keypress?

I know I often have 3 keys pressed when playing UT2k3. Having to make sure I'm moving in a primary compass direction before jumping, for instance, would suck.

How do you control+alt+delete if you can't press more than 2 keys at once?

I dont know. But the sager isnt the only one like that
My work Dell has the same flaw.. unless its C-A-D, no more than 2 at a time...

CTRL+ALT+DEL is handled differently by the keyboard controller hardware.

Wow, that really sucks. Now I will certainly not buy my 5680 until this is resolved. There is no way that I can play ut2003 or other games by only using 2 keys at a time. Thats pretty messed up. Does anyone know if Dells/Alienwares have the same prob? Thanks.

The last Dell I used (an 8000) did.

It's extremely common with notebooks.

Oh. Well then, I guess its not a big deal after all. You must have realized that I know barely anything, if not nothing about laptops. I have used a desktop all my life, and the only laptops i have ever used, were the dreaded compaq ones that my high school purchased for classroom use. Death to Compaq!!! I remember pressing the back of the lcd screen, or the top of the laptop, and seeing that squished lcd screen look that u get if u press on the front of an lcd screen, and i was pressing on the top of the laptop!!! Compaq's are definately cheaply made.

Very few (basically) nobody knows me here. So, u gotta belive me (or u dont, ur choice ) when i say im a very picky gamer. This is a minor issue, really. If your willing, it canbe fixed witha cheap external 'board. But really, its nothing major.
