Killafornia's 5680 review!! - Page 2

Killafornia, 4 USB ports should be enough. If you're not using at least one of them, use the USB port for the mouse; that reduces the chances of breaking the PS/2 port if the cable/adapter gest caught in something.

I think plugging a USB mouse into a PS/2 port downgrades the speed that the mouse sends info to the computer as well. I read that somewhere on this forum. But as always, if you can't tell then it really doesn't matter.

Awesome stuff, Dude.

One comment: You wouldnt want to go off the battery on LAN parties because the graphics card decreases its performance to save power. I learned this when I was trying out BF1942 on full settings and on battery; mine lagged, while Syndicat3's 5680 sitting right accross the table plugged in, pumped out the same settings like there was no tomorrow . Sure enough, I plugged in my AC and the lag disappeared.

Mikhail

P.S. Since the time of the LAN mentioned above, I flashed my BIOS to increase the graphics clock speeds to what they should be, so I don't know how it will perform on batteries now.

Dual Battery: Ok well I finally put the secondary battery fresh from the bubble package and I got roughly 2 hours 43 minutes. After cycling it the batteries both showed improvement and I this time I got 2:52. Fully charging both the batteries took about 4:55 to 5 hours while the lappy was off. (All this being done with the default settings and just surfing the internet, listening to music and talking on IM)
I have heard that you can go into the BIOS and set the processor to run at 50% when its on DC power. How long would you get running dual battery having the processor set to 50% while running on DC?

Thanks

Based on my observations, those options are no longer in the BIOS. Apparently Clevo gave the control of the power management completely to the OS. This is sort of a disappointment.

well... can you change it to 50% power when on DC in Windows then?

If so, how long does it last?

I havent found any options in Windowz either. However, it is very obvious that the machine gets throttled down when on battery. Graphics performance decreases, HD performance decreases, etc.

Hey Killafornia,

I was just wondering... does the screen seem a little small when playing counter-strike?

I am really considering a 5680 except no one has told me how long the dual batteries will last when running the CPU at 50%.
Anyone?

If you cant have it automatically set to 50% when using the DC forget about it.

Supposedly with the new bios...there is no option to adjust the power to 50% as posted earlier by mmarkin, while the the lappy is on dual battery mode it automatically adjusts itself to preserve battery life.....other things you can do yourself to help the battery is to dim the brightness, turn off the sound, use as little resources as possible except for what your doing - that's what i can think of right now....but if im wrong or if anyone can expand on this, do speak up.......on another note i got about 1:52 with normal usage on the 2 batteries if you didnt catch that in my review.

Yupper (not necessarily dual batteries though).

Turn off sound, Dim the screen, don't use the network devices (especially the wireless) if you dont have to, etc. Do what you need to do and nothing else. That should do it

Do you know of any other laptop (not Sager) that uses Dual battery?
I personally don't.

See if Henrik's utilities will help preserve battery life. Or if it'll even work on the 5680.
