I just installed the patched 7.93 driver and I still see the blotchiness/banding issue.

I am running at the native resolution on my 8890 & the drivers changed absolutely nothing as far as I can see(the blotchiness is still there)

I saw the same thing in my older 8887v also.

Yep, native resolution, new driver, problem still exists although it's not bugging me like it bugs some other people. I love my 8890.

Morbid,

I know this seems like a "principle" issue, but it is so easy to get rid of the blotchiness. My solution (also suggested by many others here) was to go to themexp.org and download a new visual style for XP. Something like this works great! Just download, install, and then got to Display > Properties > Appearance > Windows And Buttons and select Aqua. You don't even need a whole new theme.

This is a problem with some LCDs & ATI mobility chips. It ONLY affects the background of explorer windows. Enabling a new visual stlye in XP completely fixes it! Also, it is good to find a 1280 X 1024 (or larger) background graphic to avoid having to scale a nasty JPEG image.

This much I will agree with, I am using a 1280x1024 bmp wallpaper & the problem does not show.

Actually, I just realized: this may not be helped by new drivers. I hooked up my desktop's LCD the other day, and I realized that there was no blotchiness on that monitor. I guess these screen panels are to blame....

thats odd.

Also, what happened to the support drivers for 8887s???? Anyone have a link to them on the sagernotebooks.com website?

There was another thread about 4 pages+ long on this topic. Yeah its got the problem. Changing wallpaper and theme only makes part of it go away. If you look on the windows classic desktop you can see it do the same thing on the IE or explorer bar on the top. On my desktop LCD it is not there.

That makes me think that it is the LCD itself. Do people have it on the UXGA's on other Sagers?

I saw EXACTLY the same thing on my older Sager 8887v with the 16" UXGA screen.
