Just received my 9300 but now i need some help.

Morning people. Anyways, just received my 9300 (very tasty) and now i have a few questions:

No Windows CD came with it and i can't see the option in Dell Accessories to burn a back-up. So am i looking in the right place or do i need to make a phone call?

Next, how do i change the settings from power saving to always run at optimum performance?

Thirdly, is it safe to uninstall the following - ARTEuro, Paint Shop Pro Photo Dell Edition and Learn 2 Player?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Oh, and may i just say that this 9300 is a storming piece 'o kit.

Uninstall everything but the Dell Quickset, Audio, video drivers... I think that's all... the recommended advice is reformat and reinstall everything from scratch which I always do to every desktop and notebook in my house, I hate crap stuff bloating my systems...

I appreciate your reformat recommendation but as i'm a compete twat, i'm going down the safe route of uninstalling and using a reg clean program.

Anyways, even i did reformat i haven't even got a copy of Windows XP.

Hmm.. you're right.. missed out the point whereby you stated that you do not have the original Windows XP CD... hmm... in that case you better stick to your safe route of uninstalling what is not required and use a reg cleaner to clean out the registry...

Ue the Dell Quickset setting to toggle the power mode onto the Optimal Performance (quickset) setting.

When powered through your plugged in AC adapter, you should get full processor performance throttling at this setting (I check the processor speed on the General Tab of the System Properties window in the Control Panel).

Dont forget to access and configure power options in the BIOS. (Hit F12 or F10 during reboot).

Bear in mind even the Nvidia 6800 Powermiser setting though your Advanced Display properties are worth a look at. I keep my setting geared towards Performance on Battery and Quality on AC Adapter.

I've discovered that Dell's Quickset Power config settings take precedence over Window's Power settings in the Control Panel. I may be mistaken, but I'd recommend sticking to left clicking on the quickset system icon in order to control your power properties.

Does everybody else concur?

Here's another question for all you Inspiron 9300 users: Is it me or am I getting much more attention when I work on my laptop at cafes and airports?

Such a great notebook.

Peace Out!

Well, i've just phoned up Dell and informed them of my lack of Windows XP Home and Drivers CDs, and they explained that they didn't send out these CDs anymore as all the system info is stored on a secret partition of the hard drive but if i wanted a copy of the CD's they would send them out free of charge, as customers are entitled to them.

So if you haven't received your CDs then i suggest you phone Dell up and request them because the person i spoke to, clearly explained that we customers are fully entitled to them as long as we request them.

So, there you go.

you can burn one copy of Win XP (w/o the crap) from the hidden partition... forgotten how i did it... but they will also send you a Win XP cd & driver cd...

I wonder if Dell ships about the CDs to customers who just order the DVD-ROM drive and have no burning capabilities?

Weird thing is I got all the Recovery CDs with my shipment and I opted for the DVD-burner.

The backup program for burning an XP disc is located in C:\dell\mediaexe
The name of the file is ODM.exe
Backup that folder if you want to keep that option for future refrence because it uninstalls after you use it once.

Should I delete the Partitions when I get my laptop?

Should I also keep a extra partition for important stuff, if I plan to reformat often, or to save during a Virus?

Also when I Re-Format, what ALL Drivers should I need? Video, Audio, LCD, Dell Quickset, and what else???
