XGA+ or UXGA -Which is better in sunlight with old eyes?

I bought my parents as a gift an I9300-- I ordered it with the XGA+ screen which they are fine with. However, I am wondering now if I should have bought the them UXGA TrueLife? They will be using the notebook in a motorhome with a lot of windows and outside in direct sunlight surfing the internet and/or watching DVDs indoors in the motorhome and outdoors. They are in their early 70s. What does everyone suggest??

The matte finish of the XGA will be better in direct sunlight than the glossy reflective coating of the truelife screen. I think you made the right choice. Plus, size might be an issue here too and the XGA will show things a tad bigger.

i'd say go for the xga+. It is very easy to see everything.

xga was the right choice. wuxga's text is hard on the eyes, even one with 20/20 vision, lol.

The matt finish on the screen is the only reason it would be better.
WUXGA can easily be adjusted for any size resolution you want.

xga+ was the right choice. I haven't gotten my 9300 yet with the Truelife screen, but my VP912B Viewsonic which is a glossy screen is pretty bad with lots of sunlight, good thing my computer room is like a cave :P

Initially my main hesistation with getting the iXPS2 was because of the screen... i've used 1920x1200 on a 24" CRT (Sony GDM-FW900) for over 3 years now, and even on my CRT, that resolution can appear too extreme at time. And i was going to go with the Sager at 1450x1050... but having this laptop for a week now, 1920x1200 is FANTASTIC, and perfect for me. I do have it on 120dpi, but hell, i've had 120dpi on my CRT for 3 years, and i've only ran into 2 occasions where that dpi mucked me up.

I suggest foregoing the screen upgrade and upgrade the eyes.

XGA has a number of advantages IMO:

1. Matt finish instead of glossy ie. better in direct light
2. Larger text at native (ie. sharpest) resolution = easier on the eyes.
3. Less pixels for the 6800 Go to throw around at full screen resolution for when new release games start overtaxing the 6800 Go (it WILL happen)
4. All this for less bux than WUXGA
