HOW TO: Replace 88XX Keyboard

Now that the 8890 keyboard is available for ordering, we thought we'd throw up a quick and easy how to on replacing you're old one.

First you need to push back the tabs above the F1-F2 and Numlock-/ keys to rock the keyboard back and pull it out:

Then slide up the keyboard careful not to put too much tension on the flexprint. There you will see the connector that holds it into place. Push the tabs up and it will release the flexprint and the keyboard will be free.

Now just reverse the procedure to replace the new keyboard.

BTW, the main changes to the keyboard were the locations of the "Enter" and "\" keys.

Now all we need is that ellusive 6-in-1 reader and I'm set!

PS: PC Torque Hardware/Accessories (it's under the 88xx section, list is $60 for credit card orders).

Yes, Sager said the price on the keyboard is intro only and will be going up next month by at least $25.

They make the keyboard $85 and they won't sell many (if ANY)... $60 is kinda high, but not unbearable, but $85 is a bit steep. Give 'em hell, if ya can!

This may sound stupid, but if anyone has replaced thier keyboard, you may be able to help me.

I (stupidly) broke off my F1 key - it's still functionable, there just isn't a flat surface for me to press. I'd love to get it fixed, but no way am I paying however much for a whole new keyboard to fix one key. One that I don't use very often at that. So if anyone has replaced their keyboard, I'd be interested in buying just that one key from them

Let me know - either on here or by email pyrobob83@hotmail.com Thanks!

Is this on a SAGER? Is it still under warranty? (ie - less than a year old). If so, they'll replace it for free, well, shipping cost. They'll even cross ship it so there's no down time.

I emailed sager and they sent me a new F1 key - it just didn't have the little clips (that broke off). So I emailed them again and they said they'd send the clips. Rock on Sager!

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean cross ship? If I do have to RMA it (it IS still under warranty), I don't see how I could do that without having any downtime.

Cross-shipping is where you give them a credit card # (for security/deposit) and they send you whatever you say is broken, then when you get it, you mail in your defective piece... if not, they charge your card.

It's handy, and most people do this so they have minimal or no down-time. I think MD was thinking you can send in your whole keyboard (after you receive the new keyboard via a cross-ship).

Ah, I see. Well I don't think it's necessary. I just need the little clips and then I can pop it back in. But I like the whole cross shipping thing

Sager *STILL* rocks!
