I have a question did anyone by the vhance undervolt the Asus? If they did can you report the fan speed. When does the fan come on? If you didnt undervolt it can u plz still give me your experince when your fan come on during Laptop/portbale. Im in the process if buying a dell but i really cant get off my mind that this is 700 bucks cheaper! But i think the dell m70 is quieter or am i wrong?

I don't know about the Dells fan noise, but my Asus Z7 is very quiet. At the moment I'm on the net running on battery mode (CPU @ 400mhz) And the fans are off so no fan noise at the mo. They do come on but even then its still very quiet.

man this is so difficult! I know the dell gpu is faster but the asus is 700+ bucks cheaper but then is it louder. but why would i pay 700+ bucks for something that is quieter and is only a tiny bit faster on benchmarks! idk maybe cuae im wierd well duhhh i guess u can figure that one out since i made 1000 threadsa about FANS I may go with dell b ecuas ei heard they go at higer clock sppeds without fans turing on but then again it 1.6 inches thick! the thicker the chasis the less cooling fans needed. See i did my research!

the fan comes on when the CPU gets to about 55 degrees Celsius. On battery, the only time it gets that warm is during gaming or benchmarks. Plugged in, it usually runs at 57-58, so the fan will be on then. The fan is fairly quiet even when it it on (faint whirr). When it's off, the notebook is silent. However, the DVD+/-RW drive spins kinda loud when you read or burn discs. I hope that helps.

I think i made me desions i may go with the dell its quiter and faster but the asus i owuld have bought if the fans turn off when plugged in. But i think the reason is becuase you dont have speedswitch xp. SO i tihnk why the fan runs contant on ac is becuase its on max preformance? if i am right then i will buy the asus. Ill be more than happy if anyone can download speedswitch xp and try it when plugged in under dynamic switching to see if the fans turn on. DO it quickly cause tonuight at 12 pm Ill make my Choice!

What about the chipset/GPU fan? Mine's constantly on. Is your guys as well? When I assembled I used AS5 for the chipset and the little pad for the GPU, but it gets pretty warm there and as I said the fan is always on. CPU fan is never on when just surfing. It'll come on when I game but drops fast.

what ur talking about the dell m70 the fans never turun on when doing many tasks! If your fan is constaly running when doing surfing i think you messed up! What is in you hood? Penitum M or Pentium 4? I hoinestly dont think it is right for you cpu fan to be always runing! UNBless its a power hungary amd or Pentium 4.

my frineds laptop im using that right now! see hes away for spring break! I was supposed to go but i broke my leg ...LOong story hes getting all the babes while im stuck at home But the good part is that im using his notebook what a sucker! but the only thing i despise about this notebook is that its thick and heavish. PPLZ PLLZ PLLZ PEOPLE can you guys experiment with your notebooks and install speedswitch xp and put dynamic switching when runnign off ac. I want to know when doing that do the fans come on. Im so desprate to buy it! but i must need to know this before i buy!

I can see why you're concerned Laptop. The fan/noise on a laptop is of great concern, especially if you're working in very quiet conditions and do not want the laptop to be a distraction to yourself or others.

What exactly will you be doing with your laptop? What kind of working conditions will you experiencing?

If you are not working with professional grade programs, then the NVIDIA Quadro FX Go1400 is overkill. From what others have said, however, it benches well and performs great in games. Certainly you can spend a lot more on a Dell m70, but it looks quite bulky, seems a little heavier than the Z71V, and support might be questionable. The build on the Dell m70 will be a little bit better than the Asus though.

Well, whatever laptop you choose to buy, you will not have made a mistake. They are both great laptops and I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you end up buying.

Do you need to be taking notes for longer than 4 hours at a time? If not, then you could just use the Z71V on battery. Heck, if you got the additional modular battery, you could easily get 7-8 hours of silent power, while still several hundred dollars less than you'd spend with the Dell.

I downloaded SpeedSwithch a while ago and the fans turn off at around 52-53 degrees or so.

I don't think he is worried about battery time Rob. He's worried about the fan noise. Does the fan come on when on battery power?

Not from my experience.
