Hi, list you notebook specs and the time it takes to power up.
From the time i press the power button to the time i can get any program open, it takes 42 seconds.

I mostly used the tips on the FAQ from this forum. Also, i used this site:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1768883,00.asp
I will try to get it to start even faster.
One thing i don't want to disable is the themes.
Disabling network can get it faster as well, although i haven't disabled it.
I still want to reformat or uninstall a bunch of programs. I got my 700m last week.

700m
2 GHz
1.25 mb ram
40 gb 54k hd

38 seconds to start up and 11 seconds to shut down. That shut down is very fast compared to my i1000, it takes about 45 seconds to close down.

30 seconds flat to start up or shut down on my XPS2 with 60 gig 16 meg cache drive. 10 seconds to hibernate.

This is the one to use...

Microsoft has a software, Boovix.exe, which they designed for developers, but you can use it to help you officially measure you start up time.

I improved to 40 seconds and going down baby!!!!

Download BootVis

BootVis is a performance trace visualization tool for use with Windows XP systems. Customer research shows a frequently requested feature that users want from their PCs is fast system startup, whether from cold boot or when resuming from standby or hibernation.

The Windows development team at Microsoft has taken bold steps in making fast startup PCs a reality with the Microsoft Windows XP operating system.

Wow, 31!!
Do you have any anti-virus installed?

k, I must be doing something wrong 'cause I've downloaded bootvis, installed it and done the boot trace and boot trave with driver delays and then done optimize system, but it doesn't seem to do anything. My bootup is still, what would appear to be 71 seconds...at least that's what the display time shows.

What gives?

Oops..sorry. 10 SECONDS I meant. That's why it's bizzare. 10 seconds to shutdown but more than 60 to boot up.
